2 of those were outside the comparison period so its not like for like, but you do make a fair point of course that excluding the fact that Price has literally won the Challenge Cup does change things, and most Wire fans would surely have preferred the Wire outcome over that time period than the Leeds one under Agar.

Back to my point about Hetherington and Agar. Perhaps the answer is in terms of the set up that they have there with Sinfield as Director of Rugby which means Agar's role is more limited than a Wire head coach would be.

The thing that nobody could understand with Agar was why he always seemed to get good wraps from people inside the game as being a good coach, at various clubs....and players stuck up for him on twitter as well when he got stick. It could be that he is good at what he does - in the way that Steve McLaren was rated very highly by the United players and Sir Alex Ferguson when he was in his role with them. So maybe Hetherington and Sinfield have realised that Agar has some strengths and have found a role for him that works and a set up around him that is helping them improve again after a dip last year.

Also, as an aside (one for Wires71 in particular), I came across this on the Leeds website: https://www.therhinos.co.uk/2019/05/12/ ... herington/ from last year when Leeds were really struggling.

Look at the tone from Hetherington in that statement - honest, self-reflective and professional - and contrast it with the type of statement that would come out of our management following a period of underachievement, which would invariably include some pithy platitude about our lofty ambitions to be the best of the best of the super elite sporting brands.

The noises I heard were that Agar held the squad together during the end game of TS's reign and got on with the training and coaching regime. Also that he was very well liked by the Wire squad. I suppose because Agar was TS's right hand man, played squash with him etc, he was seen as part and parcel of TS's management and therefore had to go, but that is just a guess.

Wire never lost a game that Agar was in charge for, while TS was taking time away.

Any club with aspirations should have management in place that knows how to maximise profits. Rugby League is a sport, an entertainment business & the profits have to be generated in part by getting bums on seats whether by having the means in place to build a great & attractively playing team or by branching out into other types of entertainment to fetch the cash in.
Any club that back slides on motivation & generating profits by producing a substandard product on the pitch is not much better than amateurish.

Soon we will be dancing the Fandango FROM 2004,TO DO WHAT THIS CLUB'S DONE,IF THATS NOT GREATNESS THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT IS. JAMIE PEACOCK:

Agar was engaged at Leeds with the job title of " coach and player Development " I should think that means good at man management

Agar is respected by the players and talks well for the media. I think we overestimate how important a coach is to winning things. The right players are far more important. I could probably have coached Leeds to silverware when we had the Goldem generation.
Right now Leeds have a young and hungry team, who look like they are ready to fight for each other. That makes them pretty easy to coach. Agar has more than enough credentials to win something. Think Price would do a good job too with our current squad.

What was the difference between Warrington in 2009-10 under Tony Smith or 2008-09 under James Lowes?

Richie Mathers?

Hardly dumped on - we signed Brett Hodgson and he was only ever going to be a back up after that (Hodgson didn't get injured much either), so it made sense to let him go to somewhere where he would be a starter.

We also gave him a job at the club after he retired as a player.

I think it was as much about who left as part of that deal - a certain Mr Gleeson. If what I've heard was true there was something of a drinking culture at that time and Cullen was seen as being too pally with the players.

I thought we kept Cullen too long as coach, but I find the idea that he was a soft touch that would allow players to take the mickey out of the p&b unlikely.
