| Was impressed with the spirit your lot had to get back into that game and then win it. All focus to next week now for what should be a monster clash hopefully.
Same old Mathers though, but my money will be on him next week for 1st try!

| Quote: Peckerwood "I can't help but think we'll struggle next week based on that performance. For an hour we were totally outplayed, we were one-dimensional in attack and were out enthused in defense.
I was very impressed with Cas' scrambling defense on their own line. They seemed to have all bases covered for most of the match and really played a physical game up the middle.
I was very disappointed with our self discipline and concentration, as we conceded too many errors for a side that should be challenging for a top four spot.
I know it's early days and a loss to Wigan won't end the season, but it's wins against Wigan that can give the team a massive confidence boost and string some good wins together early on. As both teams should make the top four at the end of the year, this game should give both teams a real test and an idea of where they stand early in the season.'"
Totally disagree with your first paragraph. It was 50/50 in my view.
I too was impressed by Cas, but I think we matched them in most areas and we started to click in the 2nd half.
Fully agree with you that the indiscipline was not acceptable. Many stupid penalties given away by Vinnie and Morley to name but two.
I'm quietly confident about Wigan if we have the same team fit and on the field - hopefully with Solomona back.

| Last nights game was a good contest & Cas defence did really well at times to keep them in the game. The difference between the two teams was the coaching. Don't know what part the conditions had to play in it but we stuck to charging up the middle to wear their forwards down. Little kicks & a good 7 will take advantage later in the game.
Cas to me never had a game plan in attack. The tries came from them upping the pace of the PTB and a Mathers brain fart.
We'll have it tougher next week as I think Wigan could win it this year. It's just the week of being told that Tompkins is greater than Chuck Norris that'll make me heave.

| From a Cas point of view:
In my opinion, Cas didn't deserve the win. Rileys try was a result of shocking positional defending. Everyone knows that Briers is a master of the intercept - throwing loose, blind passes is just asking for trouble, even if he is offside. And Myler's try came from a Cas error in our own quarter.
However, I do believe there should be concerns regarding the standard of the referee. Carvell's lead with the elbow into Jackson's jaw was particularly nasty, as was Morley's late, high tackle. No action was taken on either incident. In addition, rather pedantic infringements seemed to be peanalised at random (ie Hudson's contact of the defender which happened regularly, and the offside from the restart, which happened every time).
However, poor decisions went each way. McGoldrick clearly knocked-on when he got in a right mess with a kick early in the second half, and there was no inteference on Westerman for the Cas penalty at the end of the 1st half.
However, a game which Cas didn't deserve to win and probably a fair result.

| Thaler was really good last week but last night was terrible.
What was needed on about 15 minutes was the captains calling and a severe warning about ruck infringements. Would have made the game go a lot smoother imo, common sense

| Quote: morleys_deckchair "Some Wigan fans really embarassing their club on here tonight.. I've been cringing at some of the things you have wrote.'"
Why, I think it's fair to say that when you are losing 10-0 that you struggled, at least somewhat.
And it is easy to say the opposition is poor for both teams. Wigan and Warrington both played the worst two teams (imo, maybe Salford were worse but I didn't see them) in round one and won comfortably (moreso for the Wolves), and both teams won against an "underperforming" opposition in round two. Personally I will be fine if every team conveniantly underperforms against Wigan and I'm sure Wire will be too, it is nothing to do with good defence is it?
Looking forward to seeing the result next week, gutted to be missing it, despite neither team being in good form if you listen to the other side

| Both teams had shocking decisons for and against and it came
down to whoever capitalised on the mistakes, thankfully it was us, Wire of old probably would of lost that game but thankfully we won as briers has a quick thinking scrum-half working with him who has the pace to get to the try line for those types of try we see the likes of Danny Maguire score each week..
At the end of the day we grounded out a result and if we want to finish as high as possible these are the types of games we need to be winning and sometimes in that kind of fashion as it will bring a better performance
