| I was disappointed that we still don't have a leadership group that can take control of a game. They should have kicked in when the red card was pulled out of the refs back pocket, and got us all on the same page. Instead, we switched off and defended really poorly when Catalan scored their second try.

| Both Bullock and Max Wood turned out for Widnes today. Wood scored again and offers much more than Dudson and deserves to be in.
Lucas Green played for Crusaders.

That's a fair challenge. King got 10 try assists last season; not shabby but suspect not the main source of Miski's tries: French, Field and Smith got 73 assists between them.

The Wire Guardian report featuring the stats gives clarity on why we struggled. Not for the first time we struggled on power running from the forwards & backs. Their wingers proving a real handful again.
Guardian Comments:
"The Catalans forwards made 60 more metres than their Warrington counterparts from four fewer carries across the whole game - they carried for 661m from 82 carries at an average of just over eight metres each, with 125 of those metres coming from Chris Satae, who was impressive off the bench.
Between them, the Wire big men made 601m from 86 carries, averaging 6.98m per carry.
Perhaps the biggest disparity, though, can be found in kick return metres – Catalans made 69 compared to Wire’s 26, illustrating the struggles the visitors had in keeping the home side penned to their own line.
Perhaps the biggest indicator of that was the game-high 164 metres made by Dragons winger Tom Davies, with his fellow winger Tom Johnstone (111) and centre Arthur Romano (104) also reaching three figures."

| King really put himself about and was constantly looking for work, which was really good to see.
I suspect there will be 2, maybe 3 changes next week.
Dudson out and Bullock (possibly wood) in.
Lindop out with Thewlis coming in.
And i don't know if Ratchford was Injured, but he MIGHT come in for Wrench.
Will be interesting to see what we do at Hull with them missing basically their forward pack. If Ese'ese is banned as well they're basically running with Jack Ashworth Jack Brown that's it.

| It going to take time for the new rules to settle in the minds of players, coaches, refs and fans. Not ideal to lose the first game, but its not season defining.
Its a shame we saw nothing different from last season and in the case of attacking in the final 30 metres nothing new from multiple seasons past. Nice to see King putting himself about, hope it continues.

We need to play Hayes at 7 ASAP.
Burgess is giving Drinkwater a chance to prove himself, but I didn`t see any difference on Saturday.
Hayes will make a big difference once he is given a regular gig.

| I’m hoping the attack sorts itself out, Gleeson has a good rep, so hopefully it will start to improve as these first few weeks progress.

| I think next week's match should give us a much better idea of where this team are likely to finish over the season.

Hull FC are a basket case aren't they? They consistently under perform based on resources and following. They were way off the pace vs KR. Beating FC with a number of their forwards out is not going to tell me much.

This is nothing new for the Wire ,it has been a major problem for the last 5 years or more. We are getting marched down field too easily in defence but are unable make enough progress when in possession. Defence really can win games.

If we lose it might well do.
I will be looking at the self-enforced errors, set completion, coordination between Williams and Drinkwater, defence, team spirit etc. ie all the stuff that we have control over and must have been practicing for weeks. Saints always seem to do these aspects better than us and until we have upped our standards we have no chance of beating the better coached teams in the league.

| Question will be how long will Burgess persist with certain players before shaking it up. It seems the likes of Currie / Drinkwater / Dudson / Philbin have carried on as they were last season. I'm all for a settled team but for me it is same old same old. He should lay a marker down and drop for example Currie and Drinkwater for the Hull game and bring in Hayes. Maybe cover back row with Harrison and bring Bullock back. We have nothing to lose and although Hull could easily bounce back, i'd expect us to beat them especially at home.

I thought Drinkwater tried and did ok.
It was clear to see that we were second best in pack weight and the backs always then suffer for it and look bad.
I expect Drinky & Williams to look like world beaters against a decimated Hull.
I won’t get carried away with a big result though because of the suspensions.

| I didn’t notice anything different from last season.
Same guff attack options when in the final 20m.
Same soft defence in the middle.
Big holes in defence on both fringes.
Currie, Walker and Drinkwater offering up the usual ordinary performances.
Same structures.
Can’t play against 12 men.
I didn’t get a sniff of anything new or innovative, in this or the Leigh game.
This what a completely rebuilt Catalans team, worryingly.
