| The thread title, 'shocking', is an apt description of Thursday's performance. Nothing positive to be found in it at all.
But some of the over-reactions have been extreme. We're still in with a great shout of getting to Old Trafford as long as we find some half-backs.

| Terrific gutsy performance from Widnes. Well done to them
What was disappointing to me was the lack of leadership out there. If was fair to assume that without BOTH Briers and Myler we would lack a bit of direction but the forwards were inept as well and couldn't get any decent go forward.
We have not really hit the straps all season due in part to having long periods without both first choice halfbacks which hasn't helped. Although continuity has its merits I think a good influx every year brings in new ideas new options and enthusiasm. I am not righting off this season yet by any means but just think that this TS team has gone on a year too long

Good post from both you and Vikingman. We have people throwing the teddies out of the pram after one defeat. Yes, it was an appalling performance on Thursday, but we're actually lucky enough not to see too many games like that. As for people saying they're not renewing their season tickets, well that's just ridiculous on the strength of one performance. You people don't know how lucky you are. Try doing what Yed does, or what Oxford Exile, or Winslades Offload, or what I do. We can't have Season Tickets because we live too far away and can't always get home. I am absolutely pig sick of so called supporters knocking our team and our game. Go back to 2002 and look where we were. Even better, go back to 1999 or 1970 when on both occasions we were within hours of going out of the game for good. this is a good well run club, support it, don't knock it.
Rant over (for now).

Don't think Doc meant he's not renewing it because we lost to Widnes; maybe he's changed jobs, does shift work, whatever ..... he said "makes him glad he's not renewing" ......
What Thursday showed (again!) is that, whilst there's a difference between the top & bottom teams in SL, if the top teams only put in 90% effort & concentration, they are no match for the bottom teams at 100% ...... It was a repeat of the game at Widnes where half the Wire team thought it was a training session and found themselves getting turned over.
I don't expect anything different than a glorified practice session in the last couple of games and the first playoff game either. There'll be 10 minute bursts of trying moves, both in attack & defence, interspersed with long periods of going through the motions until the knockout games come into play. Remember last years farce when Saints fans thought they'd reached the GF because they won the first playoff at HJ? We played that night the same way we did against Widnes last week. What happened in the actual knockout game at Langtree?
Like it or not, that's how the SL is set up so, why risk injuries once a top 4 spot is secured?

Not too sure about that BBH. I think the Saints game will be high intensity, going all out for the win as we start to wind the team up for the playoffs. Not sure about Les Cats, that could be played at a bit less than 100% depending on league positions at that stage.

| If that's the tactic...don't bust a gut trying to win games until the fag end of the season, what value is there in buying a season ticket for the whole season ? I'm not renewing mine for a variety of reasons but that is one of them...I've simply become disillusioned with the game.

I've also seen plenty of hammerings off widnes. Only difference is that when i started watching widnes were an excellent side. Sure, it hurt because it is our DERBY!(somebody needs to remind TS and the players of this), but thursday night was much more painful due to being outplayed by a poor widnes side with only twelve men on the pitch. Unacceptable! And no, i haven't calmed down yet!!

| The play-off system is the current victim of sepia-tinted spectacles looking back on a past in which teams supposedly performed with 100% effort and execution 35 weeks a season. No-one ever under-performed, played dodgy, had an eye on another game, got complacent, couldn't be d, etc.
Now, every time a team plays badly or loses, it's the fault of the SL set-up. If a lower-placed team gets stuffed, it's because the salary cap has failed and/or the lack of relegation gives them nothing to play for. If a lower-placed team raises itself and gets a win (or close to), it's because the top-8 system gives the top side no motivation to win every game.
A complete load of McIlorum. The Wigan forum's full of the same navel-gazing crap.

| I wonder how some of the posters on this thread would have reacted to the 80-0 drubbing by St. Helens in 1986?

I was there that night was it really 1986?
I thought it was in the mid 90's.
