You guys have nothing to worry about on the relegation front. You won’t be finishing bottom. neither will you be in the playoffs- in fact the pressure should be off your players altogether and now Powell should be starting to embed stuff for next year- similar to what Watson did at hudds last year- the key thing is whether the players are on board- and that’s the rub. Watson got rid of the trouble causers and those who wouldn’t buy in to what he wanted to do such as sezer gaskell and edwards. In fact he just stopped playing them. He didn’t care that he had half the cap sat on the sidelines. It helped that he had some long term home grown players like Jerry Leroy and Lawrence who cared about the club. And he brought in players he knew and trusted and who knew him and trusted and respected him. Whether Powell has the man management skills to pull it off remains to be seen.
As for next week - you showed against Catalan what you are capable of. We are busted currently and have yet another injury in the halves so will have to switch about yet again. But we know we underperformed massively against you last time out and the next week we had flu in the camp so will want to put that right. Our first home game for 7 weeks!!!

You have to get behind the players. The way the fans behaved at the end was shocking.
They may not have bought into Powell, but if they don’t want to play for the fans then that’s down to the way you treat them.

I wasn’t at Hudds so don’t know how bad it got, but totally agree with your sentiment. We need to get the place rocking from the very start against Toulouse. I might even put my prawn sandwich down and get cheering.

Have a read of Mike Greg's book. Wire fans don't expect to win all the time. They are very knowledgeable and all they want to see is 100% effort. If they don't see that then they will let you know. I honestly can't remember a team with Mike Gregory in it ever getting booed off(and we had some pretty bad defeats!)

Mike Gregory was an exceptional player and a club legend, but his era wasn't exactly a huge success and there were plenty of lows during it and while Wilderspool was an intimidating place for the opposition, it wasn't afraid of showing its disapproval of a poor Wire display.

The reason they never got boo’d off, was back then, our feet were so frozen cold, that if we knew we were beaten, we were off up Fletcher St before the whistle went to get warmed up.
It was freakin’ cold in them days.

Wasn't at the game so cannot comment on behaviour. If there was violence and abuse - that's not on. Booing and derision is perfectly normal.

I am interested in where this "it's the fans fault" narrative is coming from though. The fault is clearly with the coaching staff and expensively assembled squad. We have sufficient talent to avoid relegation. I am amazed I have had to write that last sentence.

When it was a bunch of part time players, trying their best for a win bonus it was more forgivable - with full time professional players earning a decent wedge, and supporters paying what feels like at times a hefty price of admission - then it's fair game to show their displeasure at a disappointing on field effort.

Boring now with Toulouse losing.
