| I suppose with Lineham it’s about what return we get for the money. We paid a transfer fee and got a decent big game player, well above average winger. He re-signed on what I assume was a better deal a couple of years ago. Obviously we don’t know what that salary is but I can imagine he’ll be wanting more than what we actually value him. I think Powell will be able to get another decent enough winger playing at the same level, like he has done at Cas with the likes of Eden etc.
He’s had 6 years here and most of that time (barring the terrible disciplinary record) he’s been an asset. Probably time for a fresh start though. Hull KR?

| Lineham is a much better winger than Charnley in my opinion, and brainfarts aside, I'd be sad to see him go.
But, in Powell we trust.....

We defo like Tom Davies.

| My perception is the opposite really. Slow, cumbersome rarely breaks a tackle and unable to track back if there's a break on. Bit of a poor mans Ryan Hall.
Any stats to show I'm wrong in any of it? Genuine question.
I will say in his defence that we don't play a winger's game of Rugby and we have a couple of centres who like to run with ball in hand on the edges so maybe a team with a set sweeping move or 3 will see him fall over the line a bit more

| Big game player Tom, and that inside ball after drawing 2 men and was as good as any winger could do in the world rl.
I sense that Lineham being allowed to go, may be more of a board level decision than one from Powell. The response from Wire following his last needless suspension, was one of deflated, given up. This time the club made no effort to contest the suspension.

Perfect replacement and a step up IMO. When he was coming through at Wigan I was surprised they let him go in favour of Marshall. Davies has a superb all-round winger's game.

Davies? Hope so. Although I imagine he won't come cheap (in terms of salary) now he's an England international.

In my opinion Matty Ashton is a first choice winger next season; that for me is his best position. Josh Thewlis is a natural full back and SHOULD be the successor to Stef Ratchford. Yet again tonight when played in his recognised position he has put in a faultless display.
Nathan Roebuck is another Academy graduate who is capable of playing on the wing or in the centre; not sure why he wasn't in the 21 for this game, maybe he is injured.
There is a lot of quality in the Academy and players who could well prove to be excellent Super League players in the next 2 or 3 years; it would be wrong for me to single any out in case I forget somebody!!!!

| I thought I’d heard or read that Roebuck wasn’t staying?
Thewlis had some great touches last night, looks like he’s been playing first team for a couple of years.

| Thewlis was faultless tonight, his link up play is developing, and he was a threat with ball in hand, a la ratch.

Since it’s a Tom Lineham thread, I think it’s only fair to say that Lineham is also ‘a threat with ball in hand’. For different uncomfortable reasons.

| One thing I do like with all the youngsters, and was also evident last year against Salford, is the total enthusiasm they have when playing.
Having some experience around them last night really helped, but it is all very encouraging going forward - especially with a coach who has a reputation for develpping players.
