What difference does it really make?
The times of contracts fees are more or less over.

Am I not right in thinking a loan deal can be instigated by the club?
If the club were wanting to sell, then wouldn't the player plus new club terms need to be met before completion?

Unless a loadsamoney comes in, who really wants him, but I can't see that happening. There's only the Doc able to do so and he doesn't want him.

Quote: shinymcshine "If he's only got a year left on contract, then isn't letting him out on a year long loan, a bit like letting him leave for free ?

Doesn't seem to make good financial sense.'"

Kind of but no, the players existing contract may be met by the new club, in full or in part.
It's almost a sale in its own right. If RM is on a £100,000 per annum for example, that is a huge saving, is it not?

Quote: morrisseyisawire "Please can we stop with this idea of shunting players around who are not good enough for their principal position just to accomodate them?

Myler to hooker and Atkins to second row being just two. If Myler isn't good enough for half-back, goodbye Myler. If Atkins isn't good enough for centre, tara Ryan. I can count on one hand the number of times these things work, that the player actually improves or enhances his abilities by such a move - Westwood, Gary Mercer ...... and now I'm struggling.'"

So are we saying that players can not develop into other positions, and therfore are finished if there form dips, or the coach sees something in their game as they get older that could be utilised elsewhere. We have 2 typical exmples in our squad this season in Monas and Higham, both started life at half backs and have emerged at the other end of the carerer as hookers. It happens all the time as players get older and their attributes change. Chev Walker played most of his life on the wing and is now doing well as a prop, as has Tony Club.

Myler has all the traits of a good hooker, he has vision and speed and a good work rate. He is able to dummy and go and has a great passing game. Why not develop as a hooker if the coach wants a creative 7.

The proof is in the history at every club, players develop and change positions all the time.

He may develop into a hooker but do we need another?
Would he be so much better at it that we look for other clubs to loan out Higham Clark and Dwyer again?

The ONLY positive I can find, if this story is true (and not Myler's No1 fan), is that we MUST have someone lined up and we're offloading cap space.

There's no logic for me otherwise in offloading him

Well we wouldn't loan out all 3 as it would leave us with no other hookers. Clark is obviously earmarked as no 1 hooker, Higham can't have too many seasons left anyway and I'd be happy with Myler, Higham and Dwyer competing for the second hooker spot, with a loan spell for at least one of them and Myler being able to play in the halves if we have a crisis.

Do some of you seriously think all the other half combinations was better than R&B in 2014.[/i

IMO they were the best pairing in SL never mind Wire.[/i

Thankyou, however I have decided that the Strait Jacket was the better option and am currently posting this by using my nose and tongue.

Higham was always a hooker apart from when he very first started out as a nipper (see his testimonial brochure).

If we end up with Myler as a hooker defending in the middle of the field, Lord help us. Can anyone REALLY imagine him making 30+ tackles against an opposing pack?

That is exactly my view mark.
He simply isn't broad enough to be a forward. He would likely fatigue in defence.

Well I'd hardly say that Rob Burrow is built like Frank Bruno, and Burrow's been playing "hooker" for a while, now

I must've seen another midget in a Leeds shirt packing down next to Jamie Peacock, and regularly going to acting half when Leeds had possession, then.

The fact is, there aren't many players that fit ONE role, anymore. They tend to "morph" into other roles, as the game/sets of 6 progresses. e.g. Hodgson, when we didn't have the ball, he's a full back, when we do, he's acting as an extra half back, sometimes twice in a set of 6.

If you can't see that Burrow has been playing (at times) as a hooker in the last couple of seasons, you need to spend your Sunday afternoons across the carpark, and do your weekly shop in Tesco's whilst the games are on.

Could Myler act as a hooker (when we have the ball)? OF COURSE HE COULD. When we don't have the ball, he lines up on the periphery. Not hard, is it. After all, Briers did this throughout his career. We have an extra prop on the field in any case, with Harrison, as he's only a loose forward in name.
