Oh ye of little faith. Surprised at you , 71.

RUBBISH !

Apart from.... 3 Challenge Cups, a League Leaders Shield, a Grand Final Appearance, attractive rugby, good signings, riddance of "troublemakers", a successful U20s, top half finishes and a feeling of pride again ........ what has Tony Smith ever done for us ?

As a Leeds fan my feelings are mixed. On the one hand I view Wire as a bigger threat with Smith in charge so would have quite liked him to have moved on. On the other, you've been a bloody good team to watch, particularly as a neutral. On balance I'm glad he's staying, albeit only just.

Its already started. Look at some of the reactions to the defeats at Salford and London. Not to mention a few presumably-now-red-faced posters on this very thread who were expecting TC to dump us at the end of 2013.

The good thing is that he will be with us for at least 1 season after the departure of our ageing star players. So I trust, if he decides to move on in 2015, we will have a legacy of a solid, young squad, still capable of competing for honours.

Quote: Saddened! "Smith seems very settled at Warrington, in both the town and the club. I can see him abandoning his previous mantra and not moving on. He came in to Warrington to rebuild and turn you into champions and if anything that cycle is coming about again. Within 2 years he'll have to replace the core of your team and all it's key players with Hodgson, Briers, Monaghan, Higham, Morley, Carvell and Westwood all at the far end of their careers. IMO next season is easy, with the challenge being to get you over the finishing line. The next two years after that will be far more challenging. I can see him staying around to bring the Dwyers and Evans' etc through to being key players.'"

I think we have a winner.

Great news...very happy that Sir Tony is going to be around for a few more years at least....can't wait to see how his good work to date is going to develop...exciting times to be a Wire...a golden era indeed.

speaking as a Leeds fan this is not good news for the rest of us.I thought Tony would walk away end of next season when some of the old heads were ready for finishing and the rebuilding began, but it seems he must be happy with the youth coming through and maybe this hints at some cash being made available soon for some big name signings to go with them.

I expect the wire to be a permenant fixture at OT for the next few years, and certainly after this news.

I do find it a little odd that everyone seems to be convinced that our ageing players will all be leaving in exactly 2 years. We have a number of players in the early 30s, but they aren't all the same age and condition. Some might stay another year or two, some might retire before then - it seems pretty silly talking about the state of the team as if it's a certainty when so much could happen.

I am very glad that TS is staying though, great news! No matter what happens over the next few years I trust him to deal with it and keep the club in the best possible position throughout icon_smile.gif

Skybet currently have Saints joint favorites along with us at 11/4 for Super League next season.
