Get over this obsession that everyone is on his back. He's a decent player, but error prone and ultimately not quite good enough, hence is being replaced. His application and attitude are not in question and nor is his loyalty just his quality.
Hodgson is a vast improvement and you won't see a flurry of top SL clubs looking to recruit Mathers. That is no coincidence either.

Listen, no one is averse from criticism but as long as it's fair i don't mind.
If Moz made 10 mistakes and then Briers made 10 and Myler the same yet Richie Mathers made 1, i know for a fact what the 1st topic would be on here.
If it's fair and justified fire away if you feel the need but don't prejudge certain players

Actually I completely disagree. Wire fans will criticise anyone. Briers has had plenty of stick from our fans over the years.
There is no witch-hunt here, most of our players get stick if they make mistakes. King has, Monas did, Clarke does, Higham does, Penny did. This isn't an anti-Mathers thing yet you seem to be making it into an issue.

What I've noticed on here Dave is that a lot of posters on here are like Piranhas, one will bite and the rest come in.
Why is it that we always need a scapegoat ?
Briers and Clarke been out a while so i can see why they've been left alone, Monas was out of position and still gets a little stick when he plays as a half back, Penny still gets stick and as been no where near the 1st team. These have all been fleeting small comments from the odd poster who has a beef with the same player regardless week in week out eg (LWF-Briers, Padders-Penny)
The Mathers bashing though is getting like the Wigan stuff and almost quite unfair and definitely disproportional.
Like i said, criticise away but make it fair and proportionate, but we take it upon ourselves it would seem to just zone in on one player and stick with it. It only seems to stop when people just get fed up or bored.

I'm not covinced tbh. Some fans are pains in the ar$es and not happy unless they are bagging their own players, but I don't think Mathers gets any more than other players who have got stick.
The likes of Penny and King were treated far far worse than Mathers has ever been.
Unfortunately Mathers doesn't really help himself at times. Before the game I was saying to the bloke next to me I feel a touch sorry for him, as I rate him at FB, yet he then struggled with most short kicks, although credit should go to Bosc for the quality of them. Mathers had a very good game, but ultimately, the mistakes could end up quite costly.
The ironic thing here though is that Mathers has made 9 mistakes in 9 games, whereas Hodgson has made 15 in 7, so don't worry they will have somebody else to moan about when he joins us. He also made most errors in SL last season, so he is consistent in this area.

| Players come and go and professional sport can be cruel sometimes. Mathers is clearly happy at the HJ and
probably due to his very unhappy spell at Wigan, feels at home here. TS obviously feels Hodgson can do a better job for us and no one is going to argue with him about that. (apart from Richie). Yep, sad to see a committed and whole hearted player leave, (if he does) we've had plenty over the years who've shown little of that, but Richie can be proud of his achievements so far at Warrington.

Obviously got a talking to from Tony today. Rightly so in my opinion. It was his "moody" statuses which fanned the flames, intentionally or unintentionally.

| Okay so we know Brett is on his way over for sure now.
But what will happen to Mathers?
And more importantly, how will we be able to find out what is going to happen to him (before it happens)?
As has been the answer all week: stalk him on Twitter.
The most recent development:
Person to Mathers via Twitter says: "Not fancy coming back to union? I've heard rumours about you signing for Carnegie. "
Mathers replies to person via Twitter: "I wouldn't rule it out..."
Discuss.

| unless tony smith has explicitly told mathers that there is no place for him at warrington then surely his reaction should be that he is going to use the rest of the season to make himself absolutely indispensible at fullback for warrington and hodgson can come here and play on wing instead of hicks
i know they are at different stages of their careers but maybe mathers should take a leaf out of riley's book in terms of getting himself back into 1st team, rather than throwing toys out of pram and deciding to switch to union
although i can see what a blow it is for him bringing in a player quite clearly to fill his position and he can't be blamed for exploring his options
at the worst he is putting himself in shop window and so we should get some good games out of him
thought he might have been trying out for the yorkshire beach volleyball team with that "spike" he did immediately preceeding catalans try...could there be any truth in that?
