I didn't go but I think it's ludicrous that one or two people have basically written our season off based on a friendly performance. I pay little attention to them but even in competitive games how often do you see the odd surprise result in the first month of the season? Players are cold and out of practise having not played competitively for so long and it happens.

Wigan are a side, along with ourselves, who are widely tipped for a big season and from what I've read on here it sounds like last night was a good well contested match which is exactly what we needed. The result means nothing whatsoever.

If that happens then we as fans need to get behind him he's only 19 and moves here to a new club under a massive price tag and with the pressure that brings, the lads got the talent there is no doubt about it, we just have to give him time scoring 4 on debut was prob the worst thing he could of done as it builds the pressure on him, for me he needs time to get it right with Briers and am sure Smith will be working on that in the next week and a half.

ffs the focus of the pre-season was not focused on this game it will be on the first competitive fixture. There may be a few concerns about the performance but certainly not the result which means [inothing[/i. I bet Smith is grateful that he has got something to work with and tune up in the next week.

was i the only one that was impreseed by mylers attitude? he was bossin the team around and even giving out a few bollockings, at a twenty metre restart at the very end of the 1st half i thought he was gonna explode he screamed at the team so hard for ppl just standing around and not getting set! he was supporting well and providing a second phase option but did anyone really expect us to start showing planned moves in a friendly?

just to add as well, for someone that can't/won't pass i thought atkins took the ball in and offloaded well quite a few times.

Oh well, another season over before its even begun. Personally i`d write this season off after last nights result and start the rebuilding for 2011, the first big game we play and we fall at the first hurdle. We should use the rest of the season to have a look at the squad to see where changes need to be made for next year.

what did you think of atkins last night rob?

I didn`t go the game mate so i can`t comment on how he went last night or how the team went, from what ive seen of him in the past he seems a very direct player, strong and hard to put down with a decent step and turn of foot. I think we`ll be stronger for signing him as i`m not convinced about Mat King`s centre skills, he doesn`t beat the first man often enough and doesn`t really create that many openings for others with ball in hand. Where King is strong is close to the line, he is powerful and hard to stop plus his height is a huge advantage to have from kicks.

On the centres for this season its a tricky one, i don`t rate Chris Bridge as a high calibre centre, he`s just solid and does the basics fairly well. He`s certainly no Bateman, he also won`t do a lot of what Martin Gleeson used to do at his peak where he easily beats his opposite number on a regular basis. I`d have Atkins as the left centre with Riley as his partner, i`d be tempted to start with King at right centre to partner Hicks. Its just my opinion, Tony Smith will know whats best as he see`s them a lot more than we do.

I don`t expect to get any pats on the back from the Chris Bridge fan club but thats how i view him, he didn`t exactly shine for England, he will do well ok against weaker backlines but i don`t expect to get many match winning performances from him like you`ll get from Gidley and Senior on a fairly regular basis.
