| Quote: ChiswickWire "Despite the investment in Austin - we've not progressed. We're 1 point better off than we were at this stage last season - we've won a game we drew last season, otherwise our results are exactly the same. Last season we were 4th at this stage, now we're second. Says it all really.
I was never convinced by Price - always seemed to be a case of last man standing rather than our chosen target. He seems a lovely fella but that doesn't win prizes I'm afraid. Our pack is nowhere near good enough to win anything up front and there's a lack of depth to the squad. For all those crying out for change - Westwood is injured apparently (as I've been wondering what's happened to him).
The big loss has been Ratchford - it's no coincidence that since he's been injured Austin has gone off the boil - teams just close Austin down as there's no other threat. Ratch chiming in put indecision into the opposition and made space for Austin to take advantage of. If we can get Ratch back we might have a hope but we need him back as soon as we can as we're very average without him.'"
So by almost every measure we have progressed off the same games last season?
We are two places higher, we have 1 more point, 1 more win, one less draw, same defeats, 117 more points scored, 21 fewer points conceded. It may well be small, but it’s still better than last season in every aspect bar defeats which is the same.
We have only conceded 44 more points than Saints have and they’re running away with the league.
I think everyone is getting very carried away with the levels of issues they are complaining about. Things are exactly where they should be, for me. We are an okay side doing just about more than okay and in a good position with progressions from last season.
We have many problems but that’s to be expected. We have many many areas we need to improve and that’s not just the coach, the players also need to pull their fingers out. But then away at Cas our underperforming props had a run-out and were then rested for the rest of the game, I don’t think yesterday’s result is worth taking a blind bit of notice of.

| Quote: Wires71 "Completely agree. I castigated Smith for some of his signings, but the poor signings have continued. I owe Smith an apology for that. I guess we will have to live with the fact that the best players want to play for Saints, Wigan, Leeds primarily and we have to pay over the odds but most of our signings have ranged from distinctly average (Jason Clark) to absolute turkeys (Tasi, Sitaleki). The one exception is Charnley but being fair I think most of us on here would have signed him.
I am slowly getting the impression that Price is not the man to lead us to the holy grail. His WG article following the Salford game talked about "easy fixes" but clearly they are not as evidenced by the Castleford game. This coupled with our turgid performances, clearly disjoined attack, refusal to drop players, and now the repeating of sounds bites "we've got a footy team" all give the impression that it's all about to unravel.'"
The recruitment is not going to be just down to the head coach, and the fact this has been a problem which has stemmed from before Price's time suggests the problem lies elsewhere, and won't be solved with the new coach.
Our recruitment has gone downhill since about 2013. I accept that it has been a tough market, and not one in which the likes of King, Monaghan, Morley, Hodgson were available. But if you compare our recruitment in the latter years of TS, 2013-2017, to Castleford's over that same period when they went from bottom of the league to top, while having to deal with the loss of their best players, Chase, Clark and Solomona, it shows that good squad building was possible. And since then, you could compare ours to Saints.

If the game was marked as one we could afford to lose (we can't afford to lose any if we want to get 2nd place) then the players and staff want flogging and I'd.like first crack please.
And if there was evidence in the week that players weren't fully focussed then DROP THEM and bring in Burrell, Livett, Johnson etc.
Don't insult the fans, Cas and the competition by writing it off as collateral damage when some of us believe that winning in P&B [ialways matters[/i.'"
Remember at the start of last season, when we were losing, and Russell and Atkins got dropped. Everyone was saying yeah, great, we got a tough coach now in Steve Price - it's not like TS who had his favourites, with Price, you don't perform, you don't get picked.
Now its just a different set of favourites. Although given the fringe players, its difficult to see how you can drop players for lack of form without weakening the team, especially with the injuries we have in the squad.

THIS. I’m not having that we’re smartly pick and choosing games. If that’s the case they want flogging as you say. You can’t work like that and hope to win anything. I’m keen to see what Saturday brings in many respects.

If Saints don't win the GF and the Challenge Cup double, then Holbrook has been an abject failure.'"
You say that as though Holbrook isn’t the reason why we should win the treble. If we winthe treble then he’ll go down as one of the great Super League coaches. To take a club that was struggling badly to where it is now, with largely the same players, is outstanding. The impact he’s had on individual players has been remarkable, something that can’t be said of Price. The likes of Thompson, Lomax and Knowles are now up there as the best in the league in their positions when they were nowhere near before.
Meanwhile, Steve Price has been backed with expensive signings but most of them have been flops and despite the signing of Austin you’re at the same level as last season. There’s a reason why NRL clubs are after Holbrook and none are after Price. One’s a top coach the other is a poor one.

If Cas and Wakey have everyone fit and are in good form you could throw a blanket over Wire Hull Wigan Catalans Cas and Wakey. Wakey might be struggling but they have players that would walk into our team.'"
It isn’t that good because of Steve Price.

Holbrook has done well with Saints but has also been lucky with his time here coinciding with a collapse in the quality of Leeds and Wigan.
Your whole assessment of Holbrook could look very different in 80 minutes of rugby if for instance Saints lose in a Grand Final or final eliminator to Warrington. I know that seems unlikely but anything can happen in a one-off game and Saints have previous in imploding in big games, back from the days of Daniel Anderson.
I wonder what the verdict on Holbrook on redvee would be in those circumstances?

Wigan giving kids a go. Saints giving kids a go , Warrington playing the same team all the time . Pat Moran played well against Salford the week later dropped so price can play the same team . So there’s 4 players for you, young lads who would give you more than what a lot of senior players are giving you at the minute'"
Totally Agree
Our Youth are nowhere to be seen, only if he has an injury and throws them in for one game then drops them again, look at beginning of year, Livett got 2 tries, top tackler and he still dropped him for King, same with J Johnson and now with P Moran. Absolute disgrace how our youth are treated behind the scenes, they should be ashamed of what is happening. They don't even get told why they have been dropped, its just a case of, right I have utilised you, I don't need you now. Price isn't interested in the youth and shown that many times. The calling back of Livett and Johnson has been utter shambles towards the club and to an X coach. I would imagine that if we ever need players to get game time again, other clubs will think twice now after his actions.

Serious question, Will Holbrook go down as a legend if he leaves before the season finishes and you win nothing? Or win one trophy and are beaten finalists? Or win nothing despite dominating this season?
I'm interested what you guys are thinking at the minute because more than any other team in recent history you should be confident of a clean sweep this season. Far and away the best team, everyone else is inconsistent at best and generally poor.

Funny cos I can't see us winning..so who ever wins loses in a way cos a thrashing is awaiting at Wembley and the loser wins cos they get a week off to freshen up some bodies..
