i'll bite. Steve Redgrave, i believe, has type 1 diabtes. Which is an inherited disease. Which is why it is so shocking for a 'fatty'' to get type 2 diabetes.

anyway, if we fatties are not entitled to the same health care provisions as you skinnies, where do you draw the line? dangerous sports, smokers, drinkers? i personally believe that bigoted idiots like jd cocket and the angry pirate/idiot should be banned from future healthcare provision, but hey although i work for the NHS i don't make the rules up! shame really!

now on a less opinionated vein, i believe everyone should be entitled to free healthcare, regardless of the fact it may be "self inflicted" if you start to pick and choose your walking a close line to racism & eugenics, killing off the less able, weak and mentally ill is the next phase. JDR Angry P et al appear to be mini facists in the making if you follow their views to the end.

Slim, I don't think 'fattys' should be denied health care, but surely you'd agree the need to educate people the perils of becoming obese and what health implications may ensue, in the same way that we give people warnings on drug and drink abuse?

If someone drinks too much or smokes too much or EATS too much they should be more of a priority to reform while less of a priority to heal.

i am aware that my weight may become a health issue for me in future life, but patronising me and calling me a "fatty" might just get a negative response from me now and then, now you being so god damn perfect won't have that problem will you? i'm sure your flawless and will never utilise public health care at any time in your lifetime. so yes your right to moan about us freeloaders! eff off will yah, i pay my taxes just the same as you do and i'm happy to pay for the care of drug addicts and socially deprived people whatever body mass index they have or risks they take!

At least hill walking or playing sports are actually healthy pursuits, any injuries picked up are just unfortunate events.....However, I wouldn't say sitting on your couch, or sitting in the pub, growing a belly can be classed as a healthy hobby.

I don't deny anybody's right to be whatever weight they want to be, but if you choose to become obese then you really can't complain when people take the p!$s, that's human nature.

I'm not reforming anyone. I think a person with an unhealthy lifestyle needs to be helped by a trainedd professional. IMO. it is a perfectly fair.

I have said that overweight people can be successful, that Redgrave has a different sort of diabetes and that you have no right what so ever to call me a bigot. I can't see the contradiction.



You work in the health field and don't know what that means? okay, it means that medicine is paid for through taxes and that when a person is need of medical help they can turn up and pay nothing- at the point where it is being delivered.


use your common sense. My view is simply that someone who refuses to accept the scale of thier problem should not be at the cost of someone who truly deserves it. I, also, think that more good can be done through reforming the lifestyle of a person who is ill (in those cases) than to just stick a plaster over the cracks.

Slim, I agree we'll probably agree to disagree, but can I just ask that if you are fully aware of the risks your weight poses for your health, do you not feel a need to do something about it, before any possible damage to yourself??....Don't take this as a patronising question, it is just something I often think about when I see people smoking, drinking heavily and any other unhealthy habit.
