| Richie Mathers! was definitely a fan favourite that was emphasised by the treatment he received by the wire fans at Magic Weekend. Also he should have been Lance Todd in the Challenge cup final against Leeds.

| I remember thinking after the Magic weekend the other week, ' just how good was Matty Blythe'. I think his progress has been marked this year and far from being an fill in player covering for injuries, he is blossoming into an extremely valuable member of the team

| David Solomona. I was not expecting a lot from him, I thought he was past it and wouldn't be great for us. But he helped us a lot last year IMO.

| The one that springs to mind for he has to be Nigel Vagana, classy centre who came here at a young age, Talking of Kiwi's, Duanne Mann and Gary Mercer were classic signings for the wire too... but since they were both NZ internationals at the time it does not count!!!

| Derek Finnegan. Cost next to nothing from Moore RUFC. Tough as teak and as honest, committed and reliable a professional that you could wish for.

| Quote: Fantastic Mr Catpiss "Chris hicks, he was the unheralded signing after king, Monas and Anderson, not many people had heard of him. The rest, is really good history. Apart from that bit when xe had him playing fullback in 08'"
I think Hicks was the signing that started the "Underwhelmed" meme that was on this forum for a while.
I actually remember the virtual terrace forum going into meltdown when we signed Hicks with other clubs fans saying he was a washed up old Aussie coming over for a pension and that it would hold back the development of Penny and Riley, I think the phrase was "when will clubs like Warrington EVER learn?"
I had an inkling Hicks would be good because Aussie press/forums that usually say any player coming to England is crap and well past his best were grudgingly acknowledging that Hicks despite being fairly old, was still one of the NRL's best athletes.

| When we signed Nat Wood and Ben Westwood I had my doubts. I thought they were panic signings. Nat Wood had made a good start to his SL career with Wakefield but I thought he was at the end of the day a back up player from the NRL who wasn't really anything special, but he ended up being a better overseas player over here than a lot of bigger names. I think Nat Wood just needed a club where he wasn't back up to a big gun like he had been in Australia behind Adrian Lam at the Roosters and Stacey Jones at the Warriors.
Signing Westwood had bad signing written all over it at the time, I thought he was a player who was too slow and cumbersome to be an effective centre and that he had got a big reputation on the back of not that much for Wakefield. Took a couple of years and a position change to get him at his best but he ended up being possibly our best signing of the 2000s.

| Nigel Vagana - Shame we lost him after 1 season
Toa Kohe-Love
Both young unknown quantities and turned out to be top try scorers.

I will look to the moment, and miraculously, the future will take care of itself.

| Lee Briers, released by Saints in favour of Bobbie Goulding, then became as good , if not better, than him, outstanding rugby league talent.
