| Quote: Fletcher-end-red "Bridge: 31 from 46
Without wishing to be too picky, those stats don't add up, as you haven't taken account of penalties. The attempts of Bridge and Hicks add up to a total of 114 (also, Bridge should be on 30 successes not 31 - 1 of the goals attributed to him on the SL website was kicked by Grix).
So, in fact, we have kicked 80 goals from 114 attempts, which is a success rate of around 70%.
The best individuals in the league are over 75% - Dobson, Hodgson, Tickle, Deacon, Brough, Wilshere (!) and Westerman.

| Is goal kicker really that necessary to go out and sign a good one?
Surely we should be ensuring that we put games to bed so goal kicks don't make the difference?
If we're got kickers in our own squad who are around the 70% mark, then I don't see why we should go out and sign a specialist kicker.

| The above was put together very quickly and I accept its not 100% accurate. Personally I don't feel we need to go and buy a player on the fact that he'd only be signed for that purpose.

If we were to sign someone like sinfield though it would hardly be just a signing for goal kicking he would give us a lot more pace around the field and would be a great asset to the club , goal kicking is just a bonus

Do you honestly beleive we are going to sign Sinfield? Myler, Atkins, Solomona, Sinfield, on top of the players we have would surely take us well into the red with the salary cap.

I understand you used Sinfield as a simile for effect, but he plays for a top side, one of the wealthier sides, he's under contract and I see no reason why he'd leave the side he's been at all of his career.

| The last minute kick Hicks missed against Salford and the late one Bridge missed against Leeds were certainly kickable. I would expect someone like Sinfield to have kicked them.
In that respect I would love to have a kicker that you would fancy kicking a touchline conversion, but not at the expense of a playmaker for the sake of 10% more conversions.

| Every great team has had a great goal kicker. What are we trying to build?

| Despite my statistical outburst above, I think that the conversion carries too much currency in the RL scoring system, being as it is 50% of the value of a try.
I'd prefer to see a try be worth 5 points (as in Union), with a conversion remaining at 2.

I disagree, It's more difficult to score a try through the middle, and the two points for the conversion reflects that.
On a slightly different note, seem to recall somebody telling me that originally a try was worth nothing, and only conversions scored. That's why it's called a 'try' because you get to 'try' and kick the ball over the posts to score. Is this correct? Or was I very very drunk at the time?

| I would revert back with Hicks. His kicking went off the boil a little before Bridge stepped in, but he's marginally the best kicker we have available. We have the opportunity to rotate if not working with Bridge & Briers. New signings should primarily have strong offence and defence qualities. Searching for a goalkicker not paramount my opinion.

Bosc under 70% this year, which is surprising. Last season he was over 83%.
