This Spike Island gig is turning out to be 1 of those gigs where in 20 years time the world and his wife was there,bit like the pistols at the electric ballroom.

Personally I did'nt go,but remember the reviewers not being impressed at all.

Trust me mate i was there..we went on a coach from Padgate college where I was doing my art foundation course.
Hot day, got drunk, etc.. (ahem), during the afternoon then waited an eternity until the Roses came on.
Ended with a firework display. Frankie Knuckles from NY did a DJ set. Walked home from the gig to my parents house in Penketh.

Convinced now?!

Ive told many people that I was at Spike Island, most people believe me, the fact that I was 9 at the time doesnt seem to have registered. I must look old for my age. Mind you I also enjoy reminiscing about all those great nights I had at the Hacienda.

I like the albums but he's a tone deaf wannabe manc who couldnt hold a note for .

I'm too young to have seen the Stone Roses first time round, but they are still one of my favourite all time bands.

I reckon any comeback tour might be a disappointment, but would probably still pay top dollar for a ticket. In any case its not likely to happen, ever.

Good job Squire is just a guitarist then.

You forgot to add the massive queue for the beer tent and the fact that the bloody thing shut at 3pm for the Sunday licensing laws at the time!

I hope the guy that did the sound checks was stoned or else he wouldn't have had an excuse to refer to if he wanted to avoid the sack for his next gig!

Still, I'd happily attend again if they re-formed.

From what I have been told about Spike Island, didn't the wind blow the sound the [iopposite[/i direction? And, were all the 'warm up' acts really as rubbish as they've been made out to be?

Being 21 at the time, I honestly didnt understand what was to blame - it was only the 2nd ever concert I'd attended, and the first outdoors.

Coupled with whatever I'd taken that day, I'm not an expert to comment.

One lasting memory was the fact that the touts prices for the tickets actually got less and less as you got nearer to the gate. I think we paid about £8 for ours (original sale price was about £13) but touts were wary that it'd be a flop!

The whole town outside was like a ghost town that day.

Shops that would have otherwise been selling confectionery had just stocked upon booze and were selling at a vast profits.

I've still got my ticket stub somewhere - rarely throw things away, and even bought a souvenir t-shirt which I stupidly later used to polish my works shoes. How foolhardy of me. I've tried my damnedest to find one like it but to no avail!

One memory that does linger is the gate control staff had these huge steel bins next to the main gates and everything that looked at bit dodgy had to be binned before entry.
This bloke behind me was in full wannabe Manc attire complete with a brand new set of maracas (a la Bez), anyway this gate control bloke said he had to bin them or he wasn't getting in, oh the look on this lads face when he had to toss them in the skip..priceless!

John Squire was on B.B.C 2 last night saying there is no chance on earth they would ever get back together and that he hasn't spoken to Ian since the group split.

As a professional artist myself, I cannot say I am overly enamoured with Squires new art collection.
You can find bits of metal of similar to that lying around the rail yard at Bank Quay.

Remember going down to Spike Island the day before and catching them warming up. Most bizarre. Even had Mani join us, who was there as a mate, and hand out some of his novelty cigarettes. That was indeed the maddest of summers...
