| Quote fez1="fez1"Great win today.
Really did it tough.
Not getting over excited as the attack is still some way off.
Individual brilliance (Clark) for the 1st try.
Interception and fluke kick for 2 others.
On a positive note, thought Currie played very well today.'"
Not sure that kick was a fluke, superb composure and vision from widdop to place a kick where defenders will find it difficult to field in my book. It helps massively when you have a clever player like Toby King who knows how to attack the defensive weak spots and results in a try made to look very simple.
Good play from 2 classy players.

| If I was going to suggest any change for next week I do wonder what value it is to have Danny Walker sat on the bench for 70 minutes especially when Matt Davies can cover 9 adequately. I quite like Walker but he's not getting much game time so it's almost a waste of a sub spot. That would let us have either another big forward, or, dare I say it, Austin on the bench.

Agree, although I don't rate Walker. I don't think Austin is good cover on the bench though, I suppose that depends how he responds in training this week. Maybe he could spell daz at 9?

| The problem with “in game” threads are that lack of perspective can easily be highlighted. Criticising King for one mistake when he offers the team so much for example. Criticising the “power play” when all season the criticism has been that our only tactic is a high bomb on the last.
A “flukey kick” how about crediting Mamo for getting the ball out in the first place? Or Widdop spotting the opportunity and executing a perfect (not flukey) kick and credit King for anticipating it.
I’m not saying all in the garden is rosey but this is a team that has adapted today and kudos to them for doing so.

I know everyone is supposedly entitled to an opinion...do you care to offer an opinion as to his contribution to the whole game?

Great Post, I have to admit I've been very crytical lately but today watching the game with my dad I backed both King and currie after the error gifted a try.
Everyone makes mistakes and king doesn't make many, certain players deserve a break and King is definitely one of those.
There is still quite a lot I don't like (such as Jason clark carrying in without even threatening a pass and getting painfully slow play the ball, matt Davies showed him up today, he's a far better option) but I really enjoyed the game today. What's really frustrating is that potentially we could play like the last 55 minutes all the time but we don't.
Hopefully we see more of that next couple of weeks.

Well actually yes as up to the brain fart moment which gifted Cats a try he wasn’t playing well especially when caught with the ball on the 6th tackle not once but twice and he wasn’t the only one guilty of this I’ll admit and yes he redeemed himself but this win was down to warrior like tackling but this will mean nothing if they can’t back it up against KR.Great win all the same which I’m sure most Wire fans would have predicted a loss myself included.

| I think "caught with the ball on 6th tackle" was part of the game plan, or rather to go with the power play instead of risk turning the ball over on a kick, which might have given Catalan the opportunity to counter through their broken field runners/speedsters.
Hence to make them start the set within their 20m line - seemed to work well enough, in terms of winning the battle of attrition.

I was thinking along the same lines.
Assuming that GI will play at Centre next week then it's almost inevitable that he won't last the full 80 minutes on his first outing after so long out of the game. I would stand down Thewliss, move Mamo to the wing and keep Ashton at FB. Austin on the bench instead of Walker.
If / when GI goes off you can revert to an established, albeit somewhat toothless, structure of Mamo at Centre, Ratchford at FB and Austin at half with Ashton going out to the wing (or even just move Ratchford to Centre and Austin in at 6).
If GI can last then I'd like to see Austin come off the bench as impact hooker. It could be a dissaster but I'd like to see him running at a tired defence.

If thewlis is to lose his place he deserve to be the bench option, if Inglis gets injured we revert straight back to what we lined up as yesterday rather than having to shuffle?

Spot on. If the King try had been scored by Saints, everyone would be raving about keeping the ball alive, brilliant off the cuff rugby, pinpoint kick, etc etc.
