If you can hand on heart say let him carry on running, PM me your name and i'll forward your details to become the next pope. And for a "professional" like Clarke to mention Rugby Gods getting their revenge is just pathetic.
Turning it on its head, it could be the "Rugby Gods" making Mcguire do that to punish you for your cheating (salary cap) a few years back.
Clarkes a toss pot, and needs to become a bit more neutral.'"
Fair point, yes 'rugby gods' is laughable. To be honest i think our lack of success in the last few years had made up for that one
No no i see your point, and i'm not caying i hate mcguire for that and i don't hate phil clarke either, i just know which one at the moment i dislike more as one of thoe incidents directly affected a game of rugby wereas whatever phil clarke says, on the pitch, it makes no difference if you catch my drift.
Also to the peopel talking about Sam Tomkins, no i didn't sweep that under the carpet, i hate it when he does that, i won't bother going in to it because it would probabaly be taken the wrong way anyway but the reality is mcguires 'cheating' cost wigan the game, tomkins 'cheating' made next to no difference.

If you think about it, tomkins cheating was worse than mcguires... Mcguire only cheated because he absolutely had to.. You say tomkins cheating had no effect on the game... Well if that's the case he is cheating for fun. Which is a far worse crime.... Do you not agree?

When you put it that way, yes.
As a wigan fan i obviously look at it in a different way.
Also, 'absolutely had to' not really, he could have waited for carmont to catch the ball then tackled him etc.
i'm not even saying any other player wouldn't do it or who's cheating was worse, i was saying people getting annoyed at phil clarke even though whatever ever he says has no affect on what happens on the pitch and thats all i'm concerned about. Fact is Tomkins should be repremaded for his 'tactics' and i didn't see him doing it last night so hopefully he's figured out it's only going to make players target him more and one day he won't be so lucky.

| "cheating, gamesmanship, professional foul" etc etc call it what you will - it's always gone on and always will, end of. I think it was Dame Eddie H who says "he (Sam T),has an old head on young shoulders"
regarding Phil Clarke (Mr Wigan),I don't have a problem with him or Dame Eddie or Stevo or the rest,i'm just glad that Sky Sports are prepared to keep on investing in a 'minority' sport with moderate viewing figures etc - just imagine what would have happened to RL if Sky hadn't been around ! I wish you lot would STOP MOANING and just get on with enjoying the game...
As a Saints fan,I would love to see young Sam turn out for us,cheat or not...

You are right in that there have always been and will always be players that push their luck/ stretch the rules for the benefit of the team - not the benefit of the game. Every team has them - they are heroes for your team and villains for everyone else.
What McGuire did was instinctive in the heat of the game. It didn't 'cost' Wigan the game - we will never know if Carmont would have gone on to score the try. The Tomkins Two do it every week, whether its Sam with his arm trap (think about it, he dislocated his finger last night and played a portion of the game with just one arm, hence he didn't do it as much) and Joel with his kicking out, rubbing his head in etc. Which is worse - probably the Terrible Two because they purposely do it every week as part of their game. We can agree to disagree on that, as if they played for us I would probably defend them too.
The point that people are trying to make is that no one deserves an injury, no one who is injured deserves to be told he deserves it. By all means he can discuss the tackle/ foul whatever you call it, but to publicly call the player a cheat a week later is bringing the game into disrepute. Phil Clarke is paid to present the sport of rugby league not Wigan RLFC and his rantings have become an embarrassment. Wigan don't play the game on their own and both sides deserve evened reasoning and unbiased commentary.

| quite right Millie, couldn't agree more - both sides deserve equal praise/criticism - maybe Phil Clarkes' contribution should be done by big Barrie Mac who gives the Rhinos as much stick as the opposition ?

50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

| Excellent - surely Sky have to mention it now. Maybe it will lead to Clarke being reigned in a bit and he can focus on his actual analysis of the games (which is excellent).
He tries far, far too hard to be different and it's hurting him. I always remember this corker about Saints.
'You know Eddie, St Helens are very much like an assassin. Assassins go for 2 shots in the same place in a short space of time. That's very much whats Saints did there with James Roby and Lee Gilmour'.
