| I must sat that Thewlis's swerve impresses me & it is a regular weapon of his to open up defences. Tai looks a pretty solid player & pretty good at delaying his passes to Thewlis.

| Quote: Winslade's Offload "This is a rather bizarre quote ? Thewlis is' not particularly big, but seems to put his body on the line on a regular basis. I would say this is probably the reason he has picked up quite a few head injuries in his short career with us. When he gets a knock he is surely entitled to stay down to recover, but I can't see any 'drama queen' in there at all. What specific actions leads you tho think he is acting up ?'"
I'm basically saying he fakes the severity of some of the shots he takes. He's won us a fair few penalties by staying down for an exceeding amount of time until the ref calls a halt. It gets looked at and we get a penalty, then Thewlis is back up and on with it, the other night being the exception where he clearly did need to come off. Just something I've noticed at points over the past couple years.

Yes i've been pretending to be a Wire fan for the past 15 years on this board, just a sleeper cell during that time waiting for the day I could reveal myself via an observation on Josh Thewlis lol. I said he was a wet wipe in that prior post because it was another time I noticed him staying down every time he got tackled. At that time I must have thought he was a mard but now I think he does it on purpose I guess.
It's not really a massive sticking point. He's a fantastic player and I hope he's in our team for many years to come.

| Was there any particular reason why Myler was bitter towards his manner of leaving Wire?
Surely it's a case that he was let go because his contract was up and the club thought they had better options or wanted a different type of player so didn't offer him a new one, or maybe offered him one on reduced terms?
That's the nature of professional sport and happens every year.
Whilst affected players may be disappointed it comes with the territory.

True. Then again, it wasn't really our problem when you were desperate for players a few weeks ago, but we still sent you two established first-teamers on loan.

Disappointed that Tony Smith got sacked before he signed Russell on a season long deal.

| Personally I think it's pretty crap that someone is suggesting josh is feigning injury, there are some players that just get hit high due to their running style.
Remi casty at catalans, james donaldson at Leeds, absolutely guaranteed they would win you one or two pens a game due to receiving high shots.
That being said, in the current climate of head injuries and the fallout, thewlis would make an excellent and obvious candidate for the cte/trauma specialists to monitor his whole career to see his progression

| Id definitely never be using the words ‘wet wipe’ and ‘mard’ to describe Josh Thewlis…..he’s a tough little bugger. May need to work on how he goes into contact (or wear headgear as others have suggested).

| Quote: just_browny "That all rests on an incorrect belief that all kicks are made on the same level. The most important ingredient in a good kick is a good preceding play the ball.Put Wigan's pack under pressure and Smith doesn't find grass. Likewise, the kicks by Walker you mention come from when he gets out from DH with no set markers.
I don't agree that most of our kicks all go straight to a player, but we haven't been as good in the last few games at creating that space as we were earlier in the season.'"
Ok. Let's take 4 example games. London are terrible and out no pressure on our kickers. We had 7 kicks behind or not far past the half way. 6 of those went straight to hands. The 7th could have possibly been taken on the full by a better FB than walker.
Hull KR away. 9 out of 14 long kicks went straight to their players. 3 of the 5 kicks that didn't were Williams interestingly.
Cas at home. 3 kicks from range and they all went to hands.
I could go through each game from this season but I really don't want to. I think this is enough evidence to show that our long range kicking game isn't good so we probably shouldn't criticise Drinkwaters kicking when he plays and takes long kicking duties.

| I wouldnt disagree that Drinkwaters and Hayes kicks placement are similar I'd argue that Hayes kicks longer. He certainly kicks longer from pentalties.
I'd think the big part of the issue for Drinkwater is hes a quota player on a reasonable wage, that a young player has come through and was/is playing arguably better certaintly at least as good as him.
I also feel that the number 7 role for us in the current system is a little thankless, do well it probably will get unoticed, do badly and it will, as Williams and Dufty run the show, so i have some sympathy for Drinkwater and I do feel the better games for him have come when Williams isnt playing.I dont know if feels overawed or something.
I think that Hayes comes in with less expectation so his performances have been received better.
I hope Drinkwater smashes it this year and goes out with a bang.

| On second viewing:
Philbin had a very decent game (took some good flat passes) & Tai put some effective low tackles in. Both improved their chances of remaining in the team.
Drinkwater nice clean break from nothing to set up Williams try & involved in others.
Dufty is being asked to do too much in attack for his own health & won't last. We must reduce his work load if we want to keep him playing every week. This idea of using him as a battering ram on the 5th Tackle will end in tears.
The conditions were absolutely appalling & made it much easier to defend.
