| I would have thought Dave Lyon would beat Penny out a full back
I'm sure we've had some 'aggressive' backs, but they're not leaping to mind .... the pack is another matter with Boyd, Tamati, Rathbone, Nicholas guaranteed places.
Les Davidson should make the bench at least - he may not have been here long but he sure left his mark (usually in the opposition). He spent the whole game battering John Cogger (who fancied himself as a hardcase) at Runcorn in the Cup - it was the only thing that made the match worth watching.
One player who hasn't had a mention, but played a significant role in some of the great battles of the 80's was Tony Humphries - sure he was sent off for butting Adrian Shelford who was making his Pie debut at Wilderspool.
He might not make the final side but he's streets ahead of Louis, Nutley and a few others getting a shout on here.
Lastly, one of my all time favourite Wires, Mark Roberts, he wasn't shy about getting stuck in, usually because he'd just been clotheslined. Quality player, but almost definitely outside the final 17.

| How about Bill Payne at No8? Played for us in the 60s and was an ex professional boxer.

| John Woods used to like a bit of biff, IIRC. And I'm fairly sure Brian Johnson wasn't shy of getting involved in punch-ups, either.

| Joe Price - He used to love to reminisce about his reputation
Sir Les
Nicko
Rathbone
Tamati
Ouch!!
Remember Dessie and Rathbone playing at Leigh for GB u24's v France and the scrum broke up in a fight. Dessie went to help his mates and the look on their faces as they walked away. Leaving numerous Frenchmen lying on the ground. Job done.
Anybody remember Rathbone getting sent off at the Zoo v Widnes and arguing with the ref? Tamati was on the bench and ran on to get him off.

Remember him punching Ian Potter during a free for all at Central Park while Potter and Carl Webb were whacking each other. Fordy spent the rest of the game trying to keep out of his way while Potter was pushing his centre out of the way so he could defend an area where he might be able get his hands on him. Even the Wigan speccies were loving it. Never see this in a game now , sadly.
(Must have been 82 or 83 can't think which.)

| Used to really enjoy some of the A team games in the 80's. Carl Webb and Andy Holbrook could be a really nasty pair and used to double up and flatten anything that came their way. Think Andy had to retire because of an eye injury, shame because the lad could really play with the ball as well as smash people without it.
