He hasn't sulked or moaned or wanted to go home, his attitude has been good, he's embraced playing for Wire, so fair play to him.
I see Austin as another example of us being done a bit by overhype from NRL agents, similar to Tyrone Roberts. In both cases we were led to believe we were getting a blue chip player who would separate us from our rivals, maybe we ended up paying a contract to reflect that too. When Austin arrived there was all that hype about him being Man of Steel before he'd even started playing.
This has probably contributed to why Austin gets a lot of stick on here. He was overhyped as a signing (not his fault). Whereas someone like Nat Wood, who had been a bench player/understudy to guys like Lam and Stacey Jones in the NRL, came over as a relative unknown, and wasn't saddled by expectations.'"
It's an interesting point on the marquee signing rule, it's there to get these players over, but then that comes with more expectation because everyone knows he's on bigger bucks, including his team mates. The interesting question is, if he were an unknown, unhyped player, would we be happy with him and his performances? If Mamo was on £400k a year would there be the same love for him? Money vs performance is a very interesting dichotomy, it's why businesses don't like employees talking about salaries. I don't think Austin steals a living, he doesn't amble round the pitch or cry to go home, he seems to want the life he's got over here.
He'll get a Super League contract, thats a cert. Whether it's with us may depend on Widdop staying

Instead of Walker? Or are you running a bench with 2 props, Hooker & Half back? I guess he would play a role at 13 so could be used to spell J Clark, we'd lose a bit of grunt though and I'd worry if we lost a forward through injury / HIA that we would be too lightweight. D Clark also looks to be struggling lately, hopefully the 2 and a half week break they will now have between the Leeds defeat and Leigh will refresh him a little but at the minute I'd be reluctant to drop Walker from the bench.

Have Davis as back up hooker to either Clark or Walker. But you’re right about looking lightweight and maybe the solution to Austin ,if Widdop and Williams are fit is to leave him out completely.

| The squad is very thin this year and we've had to put players out on saeson's loan in order to make space for Williams. The fixtures are going to pile up, we will lose players to injury or the need to isolate and those that do play will need to be spelled.
Austin is a senior player. We will see him play more often than not and it may be a case that we'll see a few players playing out of position between now and October.

He did score a very good try in the first half playing at Stand Off.
As far as I can work out Ratchford played LF with Ashton at FB.'"
Ahhh my bad, i thought he played at 13 and just remember him having a pretty poor game. Proberbly just my memory being rubbish

| Bottom line is...
We all want Williams in and 4 doesn’t go into 3.
The question is an easy one...which pivot makes way, Widdop, Ratchford or Austin?
Don’t let me influence you, but all three of them are leaders is one way or another. Currently who’s played, the most talented player at Wire is Ratchford, the best half back is Widdop, Austin has earned more than anyone in SL over the last 3 years, and by some margin.

Interesting point. If Mamo's CV before coming here was: State of Origin player, Kangaroo international, then on the back of his performances there would be some people saying Mamo for an Aussie star has a lot of flaky moments and others would say just look at what he does when he's on his game, he's a genuine match winner, look at his interceptions he is up there with Ryan Girdler at knowing when to break out of the line and pick the pass and once he's away he's away. He would almost certainly be getting another big contract because those who wanted to see enough to justify it would have seen it.

If you could have Patton back as well as Williams, who would make way for Patton.

No one. I’ve never said I’m a Patton fan. I’m 100% Wire.
I’ve pointed out facts, Patton is/was the only recognised successful halfback since Lee Briers....
There was many a game I’d have prefer to had seen Patton instead of Austin, not in hindsight, as I bigged up Austin as much as anyone. I’m an advocate that a big good un, always beats a small good un.
Patton may not have been the most liked, and came in for much criticism. Can’t recall if it was his double pump pass secured us to Wembley or a try he scored, been a while...for sure, he was the best kicker at Wire, if he was still at Wire, he’d still be the best kicker!
Would I have him back..nooo. Ship sailed and we’ve Williams. Would I swap Austin for Patton if we had to have that 4th halfback...you wouldn’t need ask me twice. You bet I would.

that is the biggest insult that has been given to Blake Austin Sally, mentioning him alongside Tyrone Roberts!!!!

I am repeating myself here but I've got to as a few seem to have short memories.
Austin when he arrived looked like a wonderful signing. He was ahead of the Man of Steel and he was scoring tries for fun ... but he got a nasty leg injury vs. Catalan and he has probably lost just that bit of pace which was getting him through those gaps. Personally he is going to have to come to terms with playing for much less money wherever he plays but that happens to most players.

Not at all. We all completely remember how unplayable he was. He was sure to win the MOS. Spring 2019 passed over 2 years ago, we’re just waiting for Austin to reprise that period. He missed the boat to gain an extension gig as a marquee. Only himself to blame. He has 3 months to impressive to try and win an extension at a heavily reduced, contract here, or go elsewhere.
I’d love to see that initial form rewarded here, but I’m just as content to see he go.
We was warned by Canberra fans, he would start well, frustrate, lose his spot eventually and end up on the bench.

| He was never able to reprise that period as teams learned to not buy the dummy.
He's still a good player though, just not worth marquee money.
