It seems to have made us an 80 minute team which is an good thing, we've won the second half the past 2 weeks after switching off the previous 4 games. We'll need to be at our best to finally win the big prize but I would like to think Wigan will as well.

| Personally id have Sandow on the bench if he is 80%. Could be a game changer that we need if we are struggling, and Clark could easily do 80 mins. I hear Mr Dwyer has been a bit greedy in his contract negotiations with Mr Smith.........

Looks like Ryan is fit and available for Saturday and Chris Sandow having a fitness test in a couple of days.
The question you have to ask yourself if you were TS, is that is the gamble worth it on undoubtedly an under cooked player. We have fallen foul before in this final with bringing back injured players. I would definitely stay with Dec Patton in the halves.

| well, would we be ballsy enough to put sandow in the 19 at the expense of another fitter player option to keep them on their toes?

| Difficult choices. I think I would keep Patton, particularly as he is a good goal kicker and it could easily come down to goals on Saturday. He has certainly put himself about in the last few games and made some good kicks on the last tackle. I have the suspicion that Sandow would get smothered out of the game by Wigan as he will not be match fit. But I would swap Bailey for Philbin I think. He is a lot bulkier and good in defence.

I agree with the Sandow concerns. I think his weapons will be somewhat nullified by the Wigan smother defence. Patton is much stronger in the defensive line than Sandow also.
Bailey will probably be brought in for Philbin. I think we will need that bit of mongrel if things start getting tasty if they start playing Wigan football if/when they are down. I do think Joe is worth another contract and will definitely be one for the future.

| Not having a back on the bench cost us badly in 2013. I'd put Bailey on the bench for Philbin and sandow for Smith but only if he passes the fitness test. If we are losing with 30 to go we can send sandow on against a tiring defence where he can hopefully get us back in to it. Or as equally plausible he can step on if one of our backs picks up an injury so we can shuffle the pack and still function as an attacking unit.

Bailey

| After Salford's fairytale finish, I'm guessing a last minute 35 meter drive from Bailey, a quick PTB and Sandow spins out a long pass for Lineham to touchdown in the corner to level it, before Patton scores the winning conversion on the hooter...

Well to be fair, Toby coming off the bench as a backrower, loose, he's done bloody well. I've been meaning to start a thread on him. I definitely think he can be something special, he's got a cracking head on him and since getting a run in the team he's looked more than a shirt filler, making some good attacking options.
Just a bit naive in defence at centre

| I think if Wigan use their structures at the right times, eg shortage of defenders on one side- use the multi attacker move, and then chuck it around a bit like they did last 20 mins v us, it's going to cause us a lot of problems. My main concern though is the power and size advantage they have in the forwards. If we use that swarm defence, similar to Klopp's gegenpressen like we did in the first half v Hull in the CC final, then we have a great chance. Personally I would have Wigan as the slight favourites.

He is a real threat with ball in hand and I am not sure he will be so bad defensively now, he looks comfortable in the team now (thought that since he forced the drop out against Wigan), like he thinks he belongs there and I for one don't disagree. I really think he is destined for big things in the game.
I think with Toby King able to cover a fair few position we can have sandow on the bench if fit. George King and Bailey to spell Hill and Sims (who has also been excellent recently).

We've certainly been more dangerous with ball in hand these last few weeks but Wire have thrown far more at us then any other team these past few seasons so we may play it a bit tighter.
It'll be interesting to see what bench you put out. If it's the same as last Thursday then that should be an area we'll have an advantage with us having a bit more experience on there. On the flip side of that your starting front row could cause us all sorts of problems and that may lead to us chasing our tales for the rest of the game.
It's an intriguing match up.

I'm not over-concerned with their forward pack.
I think we can more than hold our own.
We did until the brain-fart of a last 20 mins against them previously.
Their defence and (boring and predictable) structures are their key assets.
Oh yes - and their 3rd man tackling, lieing on and high shots.
Seriously we need to pressure the halves and keep Bateman and Gelling quiet.
We play a fast game down the middle with good kicking (high and also tactical on the 4th or 5th).
I know Lineham has become the prodigal son for a few but he's still slow at turning and partially switched off against Saints, getting caught in the wrong position leading to their long range try. That's one of the few weaknesses. (No way can I ever see this team getting caught like the last 20 against the goons).
