LOL no dig at you pal, I get your point. It's a storm in a tea cup but Monaghan will get ribbed mercilessly (as we would ensure if he played for Wigan/Saints/Anyone in SL) and nothing Smith will say will stop it or get it stopped by the RFL. All it's done is draw more attention to it.

| Quote: Deano G "The problem with the article is the comment by the writer that Smith believes there is a precedent he can use to silence abusive fans.
I don't believe that Smith drew a comparison between the two, but the writer uses the word "precedent". A quick trip to an online dictionary gave this definition of that wordvery different. Given the problems the game has had relating to homophobia I doubt the RFL will be pleased to see this kind of story - it's obvious that all leading figures in the game should be very careful about what they say on the Thomas case and if they are misquoted or wrongly quoted or the article doesn't reflect their views, as I'm sure is the case here, they should set the record straight immediately.
I think it would be best for Smith, Warrington and the game if a clarificatory statement could be issued by the club/Smith making it clear that Smith did not compare the two situations and if he did refer to the Thomas case in the interview it was merely to point out that there is a disciplinary procedure for abusive chanting. Wire fans can stick their heads in the sand if they want. As I Wigan fan, if we were in the same situation I would want Madge and the club to clarify what was said right away.'"
Will Madge clarify Amos Roberts saying that the new shirt is "gay" ?

| is it any wonder though .....take last year for example when new signing Ryan Atkins was asked if he thought Warrington could go one better and win the two trophies... and he said "yes theres no reason why we cant"
cue the pie eaters claiming we are all arogant cocks saying we are going to win the lot...
I find its only worthwhile listening to a pie eater if they are in posession of a geniune certificate from the 'i'm not a simpleton society' otherwise give em a wide berth.
you should see a pie eater in Leigh they have to get clarification on Pies ...god forbid they eat a lobby by mistake...

I haven't seen anything to suggest Amos has said what you allege. If you have then I suggest you write to Wigan and the RL.
If anyone associated with a club uses the word gay in a negative way then that would be a breach of the RL's guidance to clubs on homophobia. I would support action against any person breaching those guidelines, whether connected with Wigan or any other club.

A truly appalling post. I wonder how many other people in RL share your views given some of the nonsense spouted on this thread and the one on the Wigan board.
I'll be interested to see what if any action is taken by the moderators on this. The RFL has said it wants a zero tolerance approach on homophobia and I am being attacked in this and other posts for following that line. Unbelievable.

Don't remember that, but I do remember ridiculing you after Matty Cooper had said you weren't afraid of St Helens and would beat them if you drew them despite not beating them since their star man Guy Fawkes was out due to unforeseen circumstances and having not won at Knowsley Road since a young Joseph of Arimethea caught a Thomas Doubter bomb in the dying seconds to go over.
With regards to the Monaghan case, he will take stick but dependant on how far it goes should determine whether fines are handed out not Tony Smith, and it is NOTHING like the Thomas case.

Quote: Smith warned.'" :1q3zx4yn]

So he isn't putting a blanket ban in a catch all policy of abuse just saying DON'T go over the top.

Now my little pedigree chums he isn't saying dog chants and homophobia are the same but he is equating the word ABUSE aimed at one player, which is over the top as being the same thing.
He is just using the Thomas case as a point of reference to the precedent set by the RFL for abusing a player.
Is it so hard to understand or does supporting a team other than Warrington turn you in to a complete one eyed moron ? "Smith acknowledges that opposition fans are eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of Monaghan. He is also aware that the Origin star will be subjected to a verbal barrage over his simulated sex act with a dog,
If it's good fun then fair enough, but if it goes overboard there are rules and regulations," Smith warned.'"

It's easy to understand. What people are commenting on (or at least I am) is that abusing a player for being gay is totally different to abusing a player for something else.
If someone decides to abuse Stuart Fielden for being knocked out by Mason when we play Hull KR then that is totally different to abusing a player for being gay as would be abusing Raynor or Bailey for their criminal past. Abusing Monaghan for what he did is also different. Yes It's abuse but it's not strictly illegal as homophobic or racial abuse is.
That's why I think it would be tough for Smith to call for clubs to be fined ala Cas.

I get that, but forget the word homophobic and concentrate on the word abuse.
