no he's not he's done exactly what Graham Appo did at Wire a few years ago he was playing wing one minute the next when Briers got injured he stepped in at stand off took us to the playe offs and was named in the dream team ......

the following year he was $hit....

are you saying Tomkins is better than Wellens as a complete fullback or even Briscoe ....no hes done well in his first few games at it and was very pleasing on the eye in an attacking sense but as quite clearly emphasised on Sunday he has rarely been tested in defence at fullback and when he is he comes up short.....

Note to wigan fans this does not mean Sam tomkins is rubbish he just isnt the worlds best fullback after 6 games

fact of the matter is there is a middle ground here in regards tomkins.

wigan fans think he is the best player since sliced bread... he isnt... however he is a very good player... to suggest he is the best fullback in the league is a bit silly really... he wasn't even the best fullback at wigan last year.

some warrington fans like to think he isnt as good as he actually is... but thats just the way it is... opposition fans always do that... although going off some of the comments on here, some would appear to have appalling judgement.

My point lies with Sam from the fullback position was able to have a massive effect on the result (2nd in the HS voting), whereas Wellens was solid yet unspectacular.

You look at some of the best NRL fullbacks (Slater, Hayne, Dugan etc) one of there main aspects of there game is there pace. Sam shares this quality. Sorry to use a Wigan example again but at the start of the season Amos Roberts was rippin up SL playing fullback with his pace and elusiveness.

The modern day full back IMO needs to have pace, as they chime into the line as a 3rd half therefore having loads of space to use.

Therefore I think Sam is one of, if not the best fullback in superleague. Even after only playing 12 or so games at the position

Yes. The fullback roll has changed over recent years. A modern fullback is all about pace and attacking threat, yes they need to be able to defend, but the game has moved on now from Wellens and Briscoes style of fullback play. Top fullbacks now have the style of Slater, Hayne, Tomkins, Hodgson

Never mind Tomkins ability as a player (which is considerable, let's be fair) but what is the deal with calling him 'Sam' all the time. Yes yes yes, I know his brother plays in the same team but all this 'Sam' this and 'Sam' that is a little bit paternal for my liking.

A mixture of the two: Tomksins (S)
