I can fully accept the defeat...We put in a poor display and were beaten accordingly.
I also can accept that Wellens 'try' was legal....I'm just trying to argue that surely the rule needs adjusting so that a player at least as some semblence of control over the ball when 'downward pressure' is being used??....Wellens had no control at all and yet because the ball richocheted onto his wrist, he is awarded a try....

Isn't that a worry for Saints??...A game they dominated and yet only scored 4 tries to an outclassed opposition's 3??
If it wasn't for Wire's obvious inability to perform against Saints, I'm pretty sure that Potter & co would be a tad worried that a better performing Wire might be too much for them in a return...

Graham totally dominated our pack, we were kicked to death and Saints put in a clever, no nonsense, professional performance under the conditions and we could not cope. We fluked a try in an otherwise barren 82 minutes for us. Outclasssed.'"
I 'm not at all concerned about losing a game that was a dead rubber
in real terms we were beaten by a team that trundled it up the park with minimum fuss, they scored a fluke "try" By Wellens that gave them belief that it was their night like usual.
Then cunningham scoring a try which came from him simply having no other option but to go himself, he looked for runners and had none! that again endorsed the fact that things were "going their way"
The saints pack as a whole played well, to say James Graham on his own dominated our entire Pack (including Carvell who was our best player) is giving credit where it isnt due.
but they made their own luck and fair play to em fair result. but I dont have to take anything with class it isnt my style....

Secondly, I'm actually quite glad we got done tonight, as I couldn't see us doing Saints twice in the space of 2 weeks, considering our poor record against them....Surely, next time will be our moment??...
Since you brought up the subject of grounding the ball, how long as a player been able to ground the ball with his testicles, A la Myler, if the ref had gone to the video Saints would have had another try. Wellens grounded the ball, Myler didn't. Get over it.

Worried no, we just can,t play to our full potential in this bad weather. If you remember that lovely sunny barmy evening a few years back at Knowsley Road when it was 80-0.

| 4 tries to 3? thought it was at least 5 to 3 with them being so on top.
Bit weird seeing a Saints team go for pens and one pointers.

It wasn't a dead rubber though. Saints are now just one game from a GF. We are two, exactly where we were before kick off. That is what the game was about and what we were competing for.

That made me laugh. You forgot the need to be accompanied by cloying female pensioners in electric blue shell suits

No way was we winning (sic) two Challenge Cups in a row.
It was a live game and I can bet TS wanted to win it. Ironically TS rested 5 players for this game and paid the price by not getting 2pts extra against Quins to get the home game vs Saints.

I see where you coming from, but if we would of played Saints in any round of them Challenge cup wins we would of lost, there is now way on gods earth we would of beaten Saints two weeks on the run.

Wigan if they win on Sunday might just choose you for club call if you continue playing like that next week.

I would honestly rather play Wigan I am fairly confident when we play them, when we play Saints my confidence levels go into the -

in his sky interview Tony smith talked about discussing the possiblity of the free weekends with Jimmy lowes on the journey down. he said in the past resting players hasnt worked. And that was a prime example tonight, Briers, Anderson and Morley were awful, King did ok and Westwood was reasonable but below his usual best.
I'm sure Smithy was putting positive spin on the loss, but there has got to be some mileage in playing week in week out.
realisticlly we could be warming up for a Saints rematch with a game against (probably) hull at the Halliwell Jones. it would give us a great boost and its better than playing against your reserves in a mock match isnt it...?
