| Quote: Mark "A bit like Leon Pryce eh?'"
Ive already acknowleged that, however moving Pryce to 6 did work but people rightfully at the time questioned whether it would or not just like I am with Mathers now.

Stand offs have more defensive work to do than fullbacks.

| Quote: JWP "Your man Wheeler today when asked post game, said that he sees his future at six, but he's happy to play centre. It may be that he makes a success of centre for the next two years, but he'd still think he's a six, given that's where he played his junior rugby, but he'll be more than happy to play centre, to be in the side.
Mathers played plenty of six in junior rugby, he was 'spotted' if you will playing at six, I think his opportunity in SL for Leeds came at fullback, and he moulded himself into the role, now that's probably his primary position, but he must still have that ability to play six as his junior rugby was spent there. Pryce left Bradford for such an opportunity to play in his preferred position.'"
You see an awful lot of players who turn professional in a different position than the HB role they played as a junior. It is often because the pick of the players in terms of vision, handling, kicking, organisation, passing etc are often played in that role. They can then add other aspects of another specialist role later.

| I often thought Mathers would make a good 6 while at Leeds. If I remember rightly he did get a little bit of game time there, but not much.

| Mathers is a full back who used to be an attacking full back with the ability to pop up near the line in support.
Thats what i hope he will get back to at Wire.

| Hope the lad goes well for you, seriously I do because as a guy he is top notch - very enthusisatic about his rugby and seems to be very popular with his team mates.
However his time at us was spent when he wasnt fully fit to begin with and never regained fitness.
Hope he succeeds more at the HJ than our place.. See you all next Friday.

| Catch ball, pass ball, kick ball, run with ball, tackle opposition, score points.
Im sure he could do that in any of the back positions. Does it really matter as long as he plays well.

| I think PJ may be the one to miss out, Mathers will be a smith boy and adds an extra dimension into attack, Riley to the wing will give us that pace we need there.

| Does anyone know if Mathers is any good at try saving tackles, this was Riley's weakness IMO (although he did great with that one at the end of the magic KR game)
