F1 race in mexico city has been cancelled due to swine flu.

those travelling to edinburgh should be very careful, this thing is spreading like wildfire.

with the first confirmed cases in the uk coming in scotland its a tad worrying.

on the news last night in said that just one sneeze from a carrier could infect upto 150 people within a 10 meter radius icon_eek.gif

Funny how the guy who does the news has been in Mexico for about a week and seems to be a picture of health icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif .

About a week i think but i know that the news have blown everything out of proportion just to scare the living daylights out of people.
If people cough in the street, there on the phone to the NHS and then every cold, cough and sneeze is a suspected swine flu victim, it's pathetic.

Did you know that out of the 150 people that have died in Mexico, only 7 so far have been confirmed to be Swine flu icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

maybe it could be an over reaction but if the governments did naff all and then it did develop into a killer virus then they would get slaughtered for not doing owt.

in my book its better to be safe than sorry, prevention is better than cure etc etc etc.

Heard it all before with Mad cow, SARS and Avian Flu. Getting a tad annoying.

GMTV were interviewing people coming off planes from Cancun and the passengers seemed bewildered with all the fuss been made. They had only found out about the whole thing through relatives back home, internet etc

I read the tabloids yesterday for the first time in a while and, I must say, there's nothing like a bit of scaremongering, is there?

I read in one that "Gordon Brown must show that he is in control of it (the virus)" and then went on to say that if he didn't, he must admit he isn't up to the job.

Right, so a killer virus that could whipe out half of the civilized world should be stopped by the Prime Minister of a country the other side of the world from where it began... icon_exclaim.gif

I sometimes wonder if the tabloids are having the laugh on their readership; a sort of Sally-esque, tongue in cheek Cliche playing or if they really do believe the information they (try to) feed into the minds of the population.

to be fair im sure the authorities/travel companies would not want to cause panic amongst those that are currently in mexico hence the reason why they probably havent told the holiday makers anything.

i do think that people retuning from mexio should be kept in quarantine, especially if this thing is as serious as they are making out.

i agree that media outlets like gmtv and sky news have an irritating habit of blowing everything out of proportion.

its like when it snowed earlier this year, they were reporting as if the world was about to end - fecking pathetic icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm actually getting really worried about a potential pandemic now.

Just rang the NHS helpline to find out more about swine flu, but all I'm getting is crackling.

It's so that the nation will vote Brown/Labour back in because he saved the country from a killer virus, the story stinks all around to be honest.

I'd never thought of it like that, actually.
They must be doing something right then, they have saved us from Mad Cow Disease, Foot and Mouth and Bird Flu during their term(s). I even survived chicken pox in 2005; how lucky I feel to be a Socialist icon_smile.gif

the government will hope that when it comes to voting the people will forget about a credit crunch and instead thank the lord that the Government saved them from death.

It is, but its also not worth panicking about something that at the moment poses a minimal risk to people in this country.

The world's due a bit of a clearout. It was either going to be this or Yellowstone, so I'm thankful for small mercies.
