Is it [ireally[/i the case that these youngsters, and in the case of Livett and Johnson no-one can deny their ability, have simply lost their way, or don't apply themselves, or don't train well and fall from grace or is something rotten in the club?'"
Very good questions. Certainly with Livett, when he first burst onto the scene I thought he looked a natural and a great prospect. His early performances showed great promise and his goal kicking wasn't half bad either. One thing that did intrigue me was having been reunited with TS why he didn't stay at KR. Might of course be down to pure economics or the travelling if applicable or whatever. I can't answer your question but like yourself would be very interested if anybody did know the answer.

But he was considered good enough to be given a new contract, and then exiled.
I'm not denying his form dipped after the contract extension and around the time of the Catalans CC defeat but he isn't unique in that regard.
My question remains, why do so many of our promising youngsters fall by the wayside - are they [iall[/i overhyped?

If he was on a cheap first team contract, then its worth giving him that, id doubt he was on megabucks as I've said, personally I've never seen the hype, reading between the lines he may have landed on price's list which is impossible to get off.
But, again, I've never seen anything thats made me go, 'wow hes got great X skills'
I think its telling that the video that Salford have put together announcing his arrival is some bland hit ups at kr, none of his try scoring matches for us (3 years ago)
Theres a few people genuinely skriking over this, its bizarre

That game against Leeds he was fantastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HGhBV-6ZQ
Had some promising spells at the club then Price snubbed him for whatever reason.
Think we would have been great developing as a creative back row.
Not to be. Hope he has a great career.

| Another stupid error to let one of our own go. I cannot think of a better player to have on the bench than Harvey.

Add that ginger haired lad from about a decade ago, to the list (was his name Mitchell....I'm getting old). Another promising youngster to fall off the radar.
Something really is amiss with these [ipromising[/i back row youngsters. They get the hype when they start, so is it
a) poor coaching
b) poor application by the player
c) falling for said hype, and the player not being [iall that[/i
Wigan and Saints youngsters seem to prosper, and get lots of opportunities. We go big on over hyped Australians (the very bland Clark, and he gets a contract extension) , so the youngsters have to wait, or don't even get a chance.
Anyway. Good luck to the lad. I liked him, but, he's been around for a few years. Even someone as stubborn as Price would've given him a chance at sometime. Maybe he just wasn't good enough

| When he first came into the first team I thought he looked like a decent ball player, he had his opportunities whilst Ben Currie was sidelined.
I remember a game at the HJ (I can't remember who it was against) where the opposition scored a couple of tries down our left edge in quick succession. Livett was taken off shortly after but when he came off he strangely took his shirt off as if to show the North stand that his shoulder was heavily strapped up and that was the reason that the opposition managed to get past him.
It was a strange piece of theatre and I remember thinking that was not going to go down too well. I can't remember seeing him play a lot after that. That was probably the point that he made it onto Price's naughty list
Good luck to him. Hope he goes well at Salford

| Perhaps the realisation that they won't get any further at the club is enough to curb the enthusiasm & performances of our up & coming youngsters. But we will buy in from other clubs, players probably at the same level, & shirking pensioners from overseas.
I hope our rejects come back & bite our sorry asses .

| Whether Livett and/or Johnson were good enough, deserved the hyperbole, or not I do wonder if in two years time some people will be dismissively posting "I didn't understand the hype" about Dean, Doro or Thewliss whilst the next generation of Saints, Wigan and Leeds youngsters run amok around us.

Not many have to be fair, suspect Jullien is the one who has maybe achieved the most?
But i do agree with your point, we've let people like Ben Evans, Glenn Riley, Pat Moran all go and replaced with people like an aged Ryan Bailey, Jordan Cox, Louis Johnson and that's just the pack. The point being did any of these take us further? They also wouldn't have obviously been through the academy and been playing with some team mates for years, hence creating a dressing room culture of "the Warrington way". It's a shame

| Well, it would be great to buy in your players of choice & win all before you but RL has only a limited pool of talent & unless young talent is spotted & nurtured the great players of the future will never materialise. How the clubs & the game in general deals with player development is crucial to the future of the game.

Nah, that was the sky hype machine, cos a kid scored 3 tries, the first one he created, and the first one he scored granted, but he then pretty much had 2 walk overs from ratch roberts and clark ripping them apart down the middle, also he was at fault for Leeds first try.
But the headline is, livett scores 3 tries.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, all he had to do, was be slightly better than a post acl recovering ben currie, and he wasn't.

| He suffered because we have been relatively lucky with injuries in the last few years and we haven't had a a regular reserve team.
He was not in the top 17 players. Same with Johnson. You need to play to improve and our big problem has been getting a players a game of rugby. How can Latu, Sita, Kibula etc. get match fit. When players get a game they haven't often had a game for months. It is a nightmare and of course made worse by the flamin' virus.
