| I guess we won't know until it's been tried, but ignoring matches with the usual intense rivalries, I can't imagine attendances not taking some sort of hit.
Seems to be pretty unpopular with the vast majority of fans though.

| People saying
"It has to be local or i won't be able to go"
this is the point Sky want you at home or in the pub watching their adverts and their channel, THEY WILL pick games that are not local deliberately.

In many countries this sort of thing would result in some sort of boycott. Football fans are constanty screwed over by the authorities and Sky but club rivalaries prevent any kind of action. Rugby League is different though and it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect fans to come together and express their dislike of this idea.

Not too sure about the chances of a boycott, but wouldn't surprise if it only lasted a month or so due to suprisingly low turnout.

| Apparently Sky have come up with the plan to close the gap in their schedules when the football season finishes at the end of May...tiddlywinks from Tadcaster that used to fill the gap is going to ESPN !

| Do we know if it will continue when the new Football season commences at the start of August?
Wouldn't be so awful to put up with for 2 months maybe?

| Monday evening is a damn sight easier to travel the motorway network on than a Friday evening.
I'm quite looking forward to a few Monday evening games in summer plus it could prove to be a real hinderance to the teams that play Friday evening due to short turn-arounds. Clubs should not be allowed to play Friday evenings unless on tv due to clashes with Sky matches.

Yes - only for 2 months.
I quite like the idea - more people want to go out (not to rugby) on a Friday/Saturday night than a Monday night, so for some people Monday night games could be better.

| Personally I don't have any major gripe here. First of all, we don't even know how many games of ours will be involved in this new idea - can't imagine it'll be many - nor do we know where we will play the match/matches.
Plus, I think a real supporter, unless unavailable, will make it with arguably less drama than you are faced with on a friday night travel anyway.

Mummy duck is now thoroughly depressed. SHE was the one that was famous for losing five in a row........until the 2011 GF!!!!!: |
|
| It doen purely for Sky to fill the ratings without any thought for the RL fan. Yes it might benefit some but my prediction is a drop in crowd numbers for Monday night game...................................and some very p####d-off season ticket holders if they cant make the Monday night game. Wonder, give the dat this starts, how many of the games will be switched "last minute" as its outside of the preselected Sky game period.

Ahh The real supporter argument. That's why the authorities walk all over football/rugby fans, because of the perception that real fans will do anything if it means supporting their team.
£50 for a ticket? If you're a real fan you'd pay.
Travel across the pennies on a Monday/Friday? If you're a real fan you'd go.
If enough people are in favour of Monday night Rugby, then fair enough. If the majority are against it, the RFL should be told and if they don't listen then it's time for action.
