| I rang up 20 times to get Giggs voted off the show, think I misunderstood how it works.

| What has Giggs achieved? Deciding he was Welsh was his first mistake. If he had ambition to play World Cup football he would have plumped for England, his country of birth. "personality"? I think not.
I use to really look forward to Sports Personality of the year so that I could watch all the best bits of sport from the year. But now BBC has so little live sport, it isn't worth watching

I guess it's the BBC pandering to Ferguson so that he'll agree to be interviewed by them again.'"
The award has got nothing to do with personality (although from people I know who have met Giggs, they have all said what a decent bloke he is), it's more of a Sportsperson of the year.
If the BBC were pandering to Ferguson surely they would have give him coach of the year. After all he only won the World Club Championship, Premier League, League Cup and got to the final of the European Cup. In fact he was only one game away from playing in every fixture that a club can possibly play in during the season.

Oh dear. I guess you're right he's achieved nothing
By the way he was born in Wales and isn't eligible to play for England.

| I thought Giggs winning it was quite imaginative. He has certainly contributed a lot to football and he surpassed Bobby Charlton's games for MUFC didn't he last year?

Yes despite playing for England as a schoolboy he has never been eligible to play for any England senior teams, be it under 17, under 21, B Team or full international as his parents and grandparents are all welsh.
He was eligible through one grandparent to play for either an African team or Carribean but I can't remember which.
Michael Owen had a similar problem he was raised and schooled in Wales but was born in Chester as it is the nearest hospital to where he lived. I think he also played for England schoolboys but that might have been because he went to Lilleshall.
They only changed the rules on this a couple of months ago.

The fairytale story of Jenson Button to become World Champion despite twelve months ago having no team and staring unemployment in the face.
Or Strauss.

| I'm not a United fan, but I have to say that Giggs was as worthy a winner of the award as any of the other contenders...My only query is to why this year has been deemed so special over any other??
Personally, I would have gone for David Haye .... But it is quite sad how far Boxing has slipped in the public's opinion, that we produce a Heavyweight Champion and he fails to even make the top 3....20 years ago Bruno would have been a runaway winner if he'd took the title then (he'd probably have been knighted too!!).

....'Staring unemployment in the face'...????... ......I don't think things were that drastic for the already-a-millionaire racing driver.
I'm not a fan of F1 either, but according to my friends who are, they tell me that Button is the worst World Champion in living memory????

| "Deciding he was Welsh"? I think once you're born in Cardiff that's pretty much already decided is it not?
I wanted David Haye to win it but I didn't expect him to. Far too much boxing is on pay per view now for the general sporting public to see the biggest fights live and take a genuine interest.
