If you were to win the double this season, it's quite possible that Smith would view that as job done, given his previous policy of not overstaying his usefulness at a club. I'd be surprised if there wasn't major interest in him from the NRL, I know he declared his love for England a few years back, has he dismissed the possibility of a return to Oz? I'd love to see him at Catalans to firmly stamp their mark as a top side, which would be great for Super League.

| I think he's more than happy at the moment - even if the daily commute from Huddersfield can be a drag.
He's got UK citizenship (I think) and has no plans to go back to Oz.
Not thinking of getting rid of Brown before he's begun are you?

You know what, if I'd been McManus, I would have been in there like a shot. Me thinks Brown will be out 3/4 of the way through next season once he starts linking himself with NRL positions in the press. That's if he comes back from his holiday in Australia and actually starts the job. It's not a job I'd want at the moment personally, it's an enormous task.

I think he has school age children here in the UK and it is a massive wrench for any child to move schools let alone move school to another country.
I think TS may well give thought to Catalans in the future but currently the same reasons that would make a move to Australia difficult apply to France.

| Quote: Thelonius "As per usual when it comes to contracts, none of us know any of the details. Two more years for Hodgson on top dollar wages would, IMO, be a mistake, two more years on a lower salary considering his age and anticipated appearances could be a great bit of business.
Similarly with players who are 'let go'. It could be because they're simply not good enough, or it could be that they over-value themselves and choose to go elsewhere for more than we are willing or able to pay.'"
interesting point. if, as has been mooted the more experienced players are also involved in coaching roles of some description, how does this affect the salary cap question. coaching 40% of pay, playing 60% of pay. could be an interesting concept in circumnavigationg restrictions....

100% of their wages count .
Andy last at hull came out of retirement during their injury crisis* a while ago, his entire coaching salary counted
*can we actually refer to hull has having an injury crisis? it seems to have been going on for 6/7 years now.

| cheers kittydrizzle. without wishing to derail this thread, which is very positive, does just being registered count? does that mean all of sean long's wages are now included in the salford cap, and the same with lee radford at hull?

| very surprised about hodgson getting a 2 year deal, considering huddersfield only offered him 1 a few years back. suppose tony smiths philosophy of resting and rotating players is obviously paying off this year and players are getting more time to recover/get fit. lets hope he can last the 2 years and teach some of the younger players, otherwise i suppose a coaching role could await!

Same thing with Lee Radford for this season.
Regards perpetual injury situation at Hull. Ever since the move to the KC, the serious injuries have been far too common. With the exception of 2005/06 (CC winner and Grad finalists) there has been multiple long term. Is it coincidence? Is it poor conditioning? Is it poor diagnosis? Is it just bad luck?
I hope Dave Solo does get a deal somewhere in SL. As a fan of the game I love watching him play, he is a complete one off. Perhaps, due to his injury and enforced rest from the game, it's recharged the batteries enough for another season or two?

That was really interesting. Good find.
Sad to hear GOB is out for the rest of the season - an action replay of last year. He has not had much luck.
