Agreed duckie, he'd be very, very hard to replace though.

| As most have said, I'd be gutted if he left but if he does decide to go then good luck to him and his family.
In 'normal times' if it's a big money offer that we can't match, it makes sense to try to secure his financial future and gives him the chance to show just how good he is on the toughest comp.
In 'Covid' times, it's a bit more complicated. (Widdop scenario).
Just hope if he goes that we get first option if he comes back.

I was with you up to the “love our club to cut short his contract” bit if you mean release him mid season.

| He’s earned the right. If he went to the club and explained he has a great opportunity to go now and it’s in his best interests to go, he has earned that right over his years with us.
His consistency has been amazing, as good as he is in attack he is a far superior defender. He is top class in defence, hits hard and hits often. And has a way of getting over the line.
I would actually like him to go to the NRL. I want as many of the actual top players to go and prove they can do it, even if they come back like Bateman. Then we can lay to rest this myth that an average Aussie is better than an average homegrown player.

| If it’s what he wants, it’s what he wants. I don’t think the club would or should stand in his way given his years of excellent service. I’d be doing everything I could to keep him though, we have a marquee spot available for 2022, his name should be on it if he wants it.

Realistically any chance the club has of success this season would disappear with DC leaving mid season. I wish him well and certainly can see the mutual attraction with the NRL but wait till the end of the season (if he goes at all).

Totally agree with this a mid season move is total madness as far as we are concerned. Not only will we have planned our playing style with Clark in mind but our squad assembly and financial planning will have been carried out on the same basis.
Anything can happen of course 'where's there a will and all that....but it's not that simple in a capped sport and you'd hope that we weren't on the bones of our Aristotle's

Spot on, both of you. Clark leaving half way through the season would not be very helpful to the Wire.

I think that is highly unlikely anyway. I don't think his wife and baby want to do 14 days quarantine in a room with no opening windows and abysmal tiny portions of food dropped at the door twice a day.
By next spring things will likely be much more manageable for a move. Hope he turns it down though, as good as he would turn out to be in the NRL.

| Why would he randomly leave half way through the season. If he's signed it will be for next year onwards.

| Now or never for Clark unfortunately which is why I think he’ll go.
Hope we have a first refusal on him when he decides to come home.

So you think he is going this season?

| It is interesting this 'he's earned the right to go early - be that now, the end of the year or end of his contract.
I don't disagree, but if you compare that to - say - football where very rarely do they go until a year before the contract ends so that the footy club can cash in.
Very rarely are they 'frozen out' because they are a disruptive influence or because they won't play and are just prepared to sit it out. (OK there are a few instances, but not many).
Who has it right?
In football I guess money talks very loudly given 2nd or 3rd rate players can go for millions and demand multi year million pound salaries.
Just think what the likes of Pele, George Best or Gordon Banks would be worth in their prime these days.....

Pele? Was he the bloke who played inside Green Vigo for Wigan a few years back?
