Packs Win Games Great Packs Make All Backs Look Class #onceawirealwaysawire:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_38352.jpg

Quote: Ganson's Optician "I am inclined to agree with the duck. Very little money made from it, more a case of it being cheaper as they only have to a few tailored shirts per player. This is why the Championship introduced them last year.'"

When you factor in the time it takes the two staff to print it and the occasional disposal due to fluff up, there would be little profit left to bolster Asotasi's wages....and there's a very good reason...when things don't work out, you can't exchange it!
Kids with Riley on their shirt, would the club refund on that?

More than Saints will get out of Richard Beaumont.

Fuck me, have you done work experience in the club shop and seen all this first hand ? Or has this come out of the back seat as well ?

I always rated Wheeler. Saints are a much better team with him in than not. He is much better than Ohiha and/or Wilkin at stand off.
He is very much better than Jones and Swift at 3/4.

I'm curious to know which games your rating has come from? Aside from a game at the DW a couple of years ago where he was having a blinder before being taken out by the Wigan thug brigade I cannot recall one single game where he's made a difference for us. He's been given more opportunities than any other player I know. The only time I have noticed him has been when he's limped off.

As an aside, does Wheeler's signing mean you are letting GO'B go?

Wheeler goes to make way for Burns.
Wheeler doesn't get too many games but when he plays I notice his presence. IMO he is probably the most talented right centre/stand off player Saints have had since Lyon.

I'm not too bothered about your or any other Saints opinion of him, I've seen his talent with my own eyes a couple of seasons back.
I had the same view of Bridge and got slated for that on here too.

Slightly off topic I'm told that Mick Monas will be coaching at Catalan next year. He turned down the head coach vacancy at NW Crusaders.

You might not care for my opinion, but let's get balance to the argument:

Gidley, Shenton and Percival (I would say Turner as well, but that's a controversial topic on our board at the moment...) are all significantly better centres than Wheeler.

Now, I have for a very long time defended wheeler, this year has been a year too far, as it has with many other Saints fans. He was arguably the most talented of our "shortys who come through as half backs and end up else where" along with Eastmond, but as has been alluded to, getting more than 15 games a year from him is impossible. But that's not the more frustrating thing.

He can do very very good things, but even when he's on the pitch they might only be seen once every 10 games. The rest of the time he's either rolling around clutching at something, or completely anonymous. He simply can't seem to impress himself onto a game. Just look at the stats from our cas game last week - 9 tackles and 18 metres for 80 minutes work. Of course, he may well of got the warrington contract off the 40 minutes he played wigan single handed ... It's how he got his last one ...

Ah, a contemporary view then.

Is he a centre or a stand off? If he's a centre then how can he be the makeweight for Burns? If he's a standoff how come you are lauding him as such an excellent centre? The truth is he has never played well at either.

If you really consider Gary Wheeler is a good signing then you are as deluded as I suspected and that's without your implied statement that he is better than Gidley. Good luck with your impending ridicule. You really deserve it.

I specifically said stand off/right centre.
Gildley was good as is Shenton this season but he was pants at Saints.

Wheeler has been hampered which affected a fluidity to his form, but within his time those sporadic moments of form has been in the highest of order.
Over a course anyone could argue he has been disappointing. We have been saying such about Atkins Westwood Trent GOB and Myler throughout the season.
At times each have found a spark of brilliance.

His sparks of brilliance tend to be on the Physio's table. I am sure someone more statistically minded than I can provide you with the lowdown on his ratio of games played:time employed.

You're buying a used car from back street Bob's garage. 99% of the time it won't start.

All the players I've mentioned play right centre. It is at this point I feel obliged to point out he generally plays on the left side (inside Swift) as opposed to the right (inside Makinson) - putting in the proviso that the player must also play standoff is just narrowing it to a niche - Id still put Turner ahead of him.

Wheeler hampers himself, if he's not injured he's busy convincing himself he is. I hope you've got a great shrink for him!

if you're happy with 1 spark of decent play a year, then he's a good signing for you. I'd love for him to prove me wrong and fulfil his potential but I don't see it happening.
