Really? Fair enough, I'll take your word for it as I've got no idea what this thread is suppose to be debating or proving.
We all play in the same sport. The idea is too win your games, in doing so climb the league table, win trophies and honours. Who does that best changes from one year to the next, hence it been called sport.
This thread is totally pointless.

Seeing as though Saints in recent times have appointed unknowns in McRae and Millward, a fallen Daniel Anderson and a low profile Mick Potter, I'm not sure that's true.
We've never gone for high profile coaches recently, with the possible exception of Hanley who didn't last long.

Yep, me too.
I am a Warrington fan. To me we are always the biggest and the best even when we aren't.
With this modicum of success we've had (more to come we all hope) it has actually made watching us more nervewracking because the results matter more than they used to. Only two or three years ago, if we won it was great; if we didn't, then we thought "Ah well, there's always next week". Now if we lose it feels bad as I worry we might not go on to win a trophy!
Strange times.

Very true Widnes are about the 6th most successful club in this country.Including becoming World club champs. They were also the last English club to beat an Aussie touring side if I remember rightly.I'm not sure Wire are in the top ten,I think they are down with the Swintons and Barrows of this world in terms of trophys although admittedly probably a bit bigger.

You're not wrong there.
I still fear we will follow your course of Challenge Cup winners, 2nd in the league, Grand Final, then down, down, down until this year.....
See you tonight.
You've got the best song.

| I don't think we're as big a club as Saints to be fair. You need silverware at the end of the day and Saints have got it in abundance.
We're certainly leading the way as a club in many other ways however. Makes you proud really.

What have they done since that era? Nothing. Ok the Northern Rail Cup last year, but its hardly prestigous, particulary compared to the Challenge Cup we won.
We're a bigger club than Widnes, always have been.'"
What a laugh all clubs over spend bigger club than widnes you might be now after all you do have 3 times the population of widnes and have been looked after by the rugby league ie you got your spot in super league. But for the sheer size of widnes we punched well over our weight even before the late 80s what are you going to say we was called cup kings for ? And another note how many widnes lads was in the world club championship side yes you heard it right WORLD CHAMPIONS WIDNES RLFC ................4 WIDNES LADS PLAYED IN THAT SIDE AND 1 LAST POINT YOU HAVE DONE WELL TO WIN THE CUP LAST YEAR BUT ID SHUDDER TO THINK HOW MUCH YOU HAVE SPENT OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS TO BE ABLE TO GET THERE.PS WE HAVE STILL WON MORE CHALLENGE CUPS THAT U LOL LOL LOL AND THE LAST WAS 84 COME ON LEEDS RHINOS DO US A FAVOUR

| Quote: Asgardian13 "You don't have to have an extraordinary run like the one Saints have enjoyed to become a 'big' or 'famous' club. Throughout the era when the Pies were buying their long cup run Saints were known for being the enternal runners-up, always the bridesmaid etc. Saints shook that off in the SL era. If you go back to the late 60s Castleford became really famous on the back of the odd trophy success when their old 'High Speed Cas' slogan ( a pun on the Gas Board's advertsing campaign) caught the public's imagination. Winning two or three trophies over 5 years is easily enough to put a club right in the vanguard of the sport now. That's good, because it's much better for the game if the honours are spread around.'"
Fair comment, although the 'odd trophy' success was the Challenge Cup (then the competition to win) in both 69 and 70 and the phrase most commonly used to describe us was 'classy Cas'. Surprisingly, people in the most far flung places still react with that when you say you're from Castleford...not surprisingly they tend to know little or nothing about the modern game We became famous in the Eddie Waring era when RL was the only serious sport televised live on a weekly basis. We were never big and with the smallest of catchment areas, never will be.
FWIW I consider Warrington to currently (not necessarily permanently) be a big club who may get bigger providing they capitalise on their marketable image of trendy up and comers. However all factors considered I think it will take a number of trophy winning seasons for you to be spken of in the same terms as Wigan/Saints/Leeds or even Bradford/Hull.....hope this is one of them, good luck at Wembley.

cos you won loads of piddling little cups like the BBC floodlit trophy and the like....its not for your challenge cup wins (one more than us)and you didnt win your first league till the 70's...jesus even swinton were filling their boots years before that.
Quote: viking.gb "And another note how many widnes lads was in the world club championship side yes you heard it right WORLD CHAMPIONS WIDNES RLFC ................4 WIDNES LADS PLAYED IN THAT SIDE '" they were probably from Runcorn...
its funny really that Widnes the cup kings have won just one more challenge cup than us and one more WCC...
and the team of the 80's (apparantly Wigan )actually only won the league once in the 80's... once more than us....

That has nothing to do with how big we are. It is just a hoodoo. If we had the hoodoo against Quins would they be bigger?
They have dropped down in dominance significantly in that time. They are a shadow of the team that eas dominant when they would win Grand Finals.
