| Quote: Bilko "That would be correct. The whole incident was a bit of both. Stewards went in a bit quick but you still can't condone the response of some Wire fans. One big fat bloke in particular who (unless you've another big agressive fat bloke) was at the heart of the trouble last week. I saw him smack a surrending Wigan fan on the jaw at Widnes.
In terms of the Conga I bet some wires fans probably think "arrrghh bloody killjoys it's health & safety gone mad" as well but I think younger supporters should be thankful how safe grounds are these days and why the health and safety aspect is so aggressive which all came about following the tragic hillsborough disaster in 1989 and more in particular the 1985 Valley Parade fire in which 55 fans literally burned to death after a small fire believed to have been caused by a disgarded cigarette engulfed a whole stand within about 2 minutes. I saw footage of that incident and trust me it mentally scarred me for life.'"
Hillsborough was created by a stadium crush due to a lack of space in an overfilled stadium.
To be fair if you'd gathered everyone from tonight into one stand you still wouldn't have filled it.

lets hope we can do stuff like tht at wembley without getting told to sit down by stewards'" Or a novel idea would be to watch the game you have paid to see? I dunno seems sensible to me!
As for the people complaining about not being able to do the Conga 18 months ago I would have agreed with you, that is until I was sent on a H and S/Risk Assessment course and knowing what that stand is like the stewards will have had no choice but to break it up (I am not saying they didn't perhaps handle it badly) due to the potential for it going very wrong and them ending up with numerous casualties - I am sure most people if they stop and think for a second can think why it probably isn't the most sensible/safest thing to be doing. You also have to remember that due to the wonderful claim culture we have now that if something had gone wrong then some idiot would have probably sued the club for allowing them to do it.

| Didn't go to the game last night but watched it on tv. Saw wire fans doing a conga causing no trouble at all yes maybe health and safety gone mad and all that they should be told to stop if they were going up and down the steps (but how is that different to everyone going out of the ground at the end of the game?) the stewards were seen rushing up the stairs mob handed when just a quiet word would surely be surfice.
So depending on how the stewards approached the situation would determine the reaction from the wire fans. But no excuse for fighting fire with fire.

How many of our so called fans actually watched the game tonight? I personally didn't enjoy tonight at all. To me the annual visit to Wigan is the highlight of the year. Sadly this wasn't the case this time. I am thinking it will be nice to get the Wembley trip out of the way so we can get back to supporting the team in the normal manner. What a sad way to feel after such a long wait! I hope the s aren't going to spoil our day out!'"
Yeah lets get it out the way jesus some people really are too sensitive

"Why is that frisbee getting bigger and bigger?"
.....and then it hits me.......:5137.jpg |

| Quote: SaintsFan "Yes, true. They should indeed ban the stewards at the piedome. All they do is spoil a bit of a laugh.
It's a sad state of affairs when some happy fans can't do a conga. Pathetic, it really is.'"
Maybe it was a case of them having a problem with a few of the wire fans being happy cos we were losing. How very dare we? We supposed to be stood with arms crossed and bottom lip sticking out down to the third buttonwhole on our shirts and look like we've eaten our own socks. Or better still, do the wigan walk....
And as for a wire fan singing to a big wigan fan about eating pies..........have a look at the locked wigan thread on page 2 and 3 and see if the perfect wiganers didnt just poke a tiny little bit of fun at a big warrington fan that we saw on telly.

i saw lots of skinny folk missbehaving last week, i gave the description to the police they arrested all skinny folk, hence the poor attendance last night

I agree totally with you there. As in society there is an element that you are embarassed to be associated with.I have been to virtually all the matches home and away over the past 19 years and I have to say that some of the fans behaviour is a discrace and living in between both St Helens and Wigan both sides comment on it.
If a steward was pushed that was unacceptable and if the minority of our fans can not behave we will end up being policed. There was a mum in front of me giving one and two finger salutes every other word a swear word - is it really needed. Can people just not attend , have a good time and enjoy the match.
As mentioned previously if some drunken tool had fell and ended up in hospital or died people would have been slagging the stewards off.
I also can empathise with a few stewards going up in to hundreds of wire fans.

yes which is to identify the offender and pick him out as he's leaving, the irony is he was not even charged with any thing.
i have done security at a champions league final so have a right to comment. stewards were trying to save face last night because they were unable to "control" some kids who were getting giddy, lets face facts
no one left early because they were scared, wigan fans get over yourself, you do the walk every week, i have photographic proof that you have "early leaver turnstyles"
no one got hurt/ arrested. unlike last week when several pie trouble makers did(arrested that is) so who's the worst fans?
and not one wigan fan would be on here moaning if they had won last week!
end of!

I think you are getting mistaken there mate. What is he going to be charged with.. He would only be charged if he committed an offence and was arrested and taken to a police station.
end of!'"

thats made me chuckle.
