| Not trying to get up the Wire fans, but has Adrain Morley stated more than once he wants to finish his career with Salford.

Yeah think hes said it twice before but hes also said after that he no longer would want to come I think so anyway, I know hes definitely said he wants to twice not to sure about him saying he doesn't want to but I think he did a few years back.

If we want Super League to expand the only way forwards is for the weak links in Super League to improve. We can hardly claim that Warrington were anything special when we started talking about our new stadium in 1998. At that time we were usually near the bottom of the table like Salford are now and yes we might have had one good season when Jonathan Davies was with us four years earlier, but that was hardly a case for us being a big and successful club.....Salford had one good season a few years ago when they had Andrew Dunemann. The worrying thing for us when we started talking about a new stadium was that even when we were on top of the league for much of the 1993/94 season, our crowds were around the 5000 mark, so it was a hard sell for Peter Deakin to try and convince people (and sponsors) that we would have five figure crowds in the new stadium....
'"
Sally, while I always enjoy and respect your opinions, I feel your admittedly limited knowledge of Wire history is exposed here.
Certainly in the 35 years that I have followed Wire, Salford have never been anything similar to us, barring those dodgy couple of seasons at the beginning of this century.....From the late 70's onwards they have been a yo-yo club, similar to how Oldham were, indeed most older fans of the British game might consider Oldham the better of the 'Manchester' clubs, especially in the 80's.
Salford's support as always been a sticking point....Like I said earlier, the area certainly lacks a Rugby League 'feel' and I really can't go along with your assumption that they will entice some yuppie types in to their new stadium.
For the sake of the game as a whole, I hope they do well, but while they will improve on and off the pitch, I feel ultimately that they will be another Huddersfield, with a nice ground but little solid support.

| Salford have won the RL Championship more times than Warrington, I'm afraid to say.
Most recently, twice in the mid-1970s. Which is two decades more recently than we last won it.

Yes, but since the Watkins/ Fielding inspired days of then, they have produced little.....Certainly from that era onwards, they have been a club on a downward spiral, certainly in the north west area, they have lagged a long way behind, Wire, Wigan, Saints & Widnes.
I applaud their desire to bring back the glory days and to attempt to stimulate an uninspired local public, but I had to correct Sally, who seems to believe that Wire have been in the doldrums since the Brian Bevan era.

Not sure what you mean, I was talking about the position we were in when we started looking at our new stadium. We were at a low point in our history and had had depressed crowds for a long time, even in the 1980s when we had some success, we had low average attendances with good gates against Wigan and Saints at home and very low crowds for the rest. When you are trying to attract fans, they are not going to care about the clubs history and what it did twenty or thirty years ago. Salford now are not in much of a different situation to where we were in 1998/99 and we had the same sceptics telling us it will never work. Not saying it will be easy but if they get a good stadium, and manage to bring some sponsorship on board, they will be able to bring better players in and become a more credible side to appeal to new supporters.

| Personally, I'm pleased for Salford and can't wait to watch a game in their new ground. For whatever reason (there are worse grounds) I just cannot stand The Willows. It's up there with Belle Vue in my most hated ground stakes, but is no worse in reality than Cas or St Helens, or Hull KR.
20,000 sounds excessive capacity wise but I cannot understand the constant kicking of Salford in their attempts to increase support and general appearance of their club. Perhaps it's folk worrying that soon our stadium won't look so "Sexy" by comparison. People don't half have short memories. Wilderspool was a sess pit.
We should all be looking forward to the time when every ground we go to will be either new or vastly improved. (Hopefully) In 2/3 years time we might see the following
Wigan - 5* Stadia - 10k +
St Helens - 5* Stadia - 10k +
Warrington - 4* Stadia - 10k +-
Leeds - 4* Stadia - 10k+
Hull FC - 5* Stadia - 10k +
Huddersfield - 5* Stadia - 8k+
Hull KR - 2/3* Stadia - 7k+ (more with planned stadium improvements)
Crusaders - 3* Stadia - 5k+
Castleford - 4/5* Stadia - 8k+
Bradford - 2/3* Stadia - 8k+
Salford - 4/5* Stadia - 8k+
Widnes - 4* Stadia - 7k+
Quins - 4* Stadia - 4k+
Catalan D - 3* Stadia - 7k+
Average around 8k per game. Some of these might be wishful thinking but not out of the realms of possibility.

| I saw Lee at the Eccles Morrisons last week if that is any clue. He bought a deep dish apple pie slice and some chicken bites and wedges from the warm food counter.
