Also Matautia has overtaken Holmes as my least favourite Powellite IMO, ruddy nora he's poor.'"
Calm down Ratticus. I'm just objectively analysing the tries in black and white (if you interpret the post in the manner it's intended).

You know, I always try to stay on the optimistic side of things, I dont get personal on players ever.
But I really really don't like matautia in our side, it's a strong dislike bordering on something else.
I dont trust him, I dont think you can rely on him, we're back to wingers under price not getting a pass.
He and Minikin were a lightning rod last night for everything that's wrong about this team.
I actually thought Holmes was alright on the left to start off with.

| I wasn't having a pop at you I'm merely offering the opinion that Minikin may well have let his side down on those tries but one man has let the entire club and town down ALL season.

| Last home game = same appalling issues on the field. Get rid of Powell, his coaching team & the lazy, pathetic players he bought with him. The owners need to grow a pair now & not 6 games into next season. Holmes is a passenger & has been all season & the other 2 aren’t much better. If Powell is here next season they will be as well - enough said. We deserve to be relegated that is the level we are at now & Powell must take the can for the situation. The Club needs to have a long look at it's part in this seasons debacle - the final final straw for me last night was MoM award to Jason Clark (because he's leaving??) a steady plodder who has tried is best when playing for the Wire but has never really been good enough. How must Bullock, Ratchford & Mulhearn feel having played their guts out?
SORT THIS OUT WARRINGTON - Don't wait any longer!!!!
And another thing the players are not fit enough for a full game of SL rugby. Castleford just bided their time & waited for us to collapse, as we always do, & the game was theirs. That's totally down to Powell as is the lack of structured attacking plays & the weak disorganised defence.
SORRY, but I'm bl**dy annoyed!

| The problem we have is that Powell's appointment and 'cultural change mission' was backed by the board and in the main, a popular choice with fans. How long should a new coach making such changes have? There are so many grey areas it's difficult to finitely identify where to attribute faults in the context of such mass upheaval. I think that's the major issue and why it would be tricky for the board to sack him.
It has been disappointing thus far and Powell in his interview was more honest in that he basically said, he hasn't succeeded in instilling the mental toughness required, yet. It does concern me because this facet of performance is something that can be fixed reasonably quickly eg. Utd v Liverpool where ten Hag seems to have worked some magic in such a short space of time.
A slight caveat, and I'm not making excuses because I'm fairly annoyed too, but Minichin hasn't played too many games and he was responsible for 2 tries. That said, those 2 defensive errors shouldn't be happening with a seasoned pro.
After last night, I have to admit to being more concerned than at any other point during this season. I'm still backing him, but I absolutely get the posts wanting him out too and actually agree with the reasoning.
Those two Aus forwards and both Cats players seem like descent pros. Hopefully, at the very least, they'll bring a bit more back bone or else we're well and truly snookered.

Have you tried calling the club shop?: |
|
| Quotes from DP after yesterdays game:
“There’s something there but we get rattled and it’s bang, bang, bang.
“We’re conceding crazy tries through players not doing their jobs effectively enough, but it’s a collective mental difficulty we’ve faced all year.
“We don’t do things consistently that we should do to control a game, so it is systematic from that point of view but it’s more mental than anything."
Sounds like a team that does not believe in the systems they are being coached. As soon as we are put under pressure the mentallity is "oh no what we're doing doesn't work we are going to get beat"

It's on him, for a start he is asking Williams to do something that he can't do, same goes for ratchford. Put Williams next to a controlling half and let him do what he is best at which is looking for gaps, supporting plays and punishing defensive lapses. Why ratchford came back in last night and he didn't let Dean have another go is baffling, Dean should have had these 4 games to show he can control a game because we know ratchford and Williams can't. He is consistently asking players to do things they aren't very good at doing.
I've lost the faith, I accepted that the pack wasn't good enough and we were on the back foot too much, I accept that the culture needs to change but I can't accept acknowledging that we don't control games well but running with a halfback combination that can't control games regardless. I can't accept that he acknowledged right at the start of the season that we get rattled too easily and now we get rattled worse than ever with his players. There is no reason to buy a season ticket for next season as things stand.

Consistency and coping with pressure is a two way street really. The coach has cracked, time and again. I’ve gone on about the right side a lot, but now it’s Mikaele in and out, Currie dropped…
He’s under the microscope, but he’s cracked, time and again. He went to the “tried and tested” to try and save the season, Minikin, Matautia, Holmes and Ratchford. Old heads, good communicators… he tried it for one week then dropped Holmes again for Nicholson. He lacks the courage of his conviction.
That said, the silence from the club is criminal. I’ve said this before but, If the club was in such a terrible state to justify this seasons performance, the club should be at the defence of Powell and be open and honest that he inherited a basket case that needed a root and branch, and internally they are happy with the progress behind closed doors. That, as well as shedding some blood on the leadership team that oversaw the failure of a leading club in 2011-12-13 to being in such a state that 11th position as actually being justifiable.

| During Thursday nights game during the set of six when we were defending leading up to the first Cas try I was drawn to watching Dufty. We had 3 or 4 tackles to defend when the defensive line was either on the try line or just ahead of it. The reason my eyes were fixed on Dufty was that he was in the defensive line. Now I know when on our own line the full back will sort of assume one of the marker positions until the ball is passed from DH.
The strange thing was that Dufty pushed forward with the rest of the defensive line for all 3 tackles. So watching the Wigan v Saints game I paid a bit of attention and both fullback drifted behind the line in the direction of play (behind the defensive line)
It's a shame it wasn't televised because the highlights will only show that PTB but I found it really odd.
Anybody else notice it? and is this a new way of defending your own line to put 13 men in the line rather than a fullback sweeping up behind.
It didnt look like Dufty had just lost concentration for a second because he did it 3 times in a row and made a positive move forwards. It looked like he had been told to do it.

| I dunno, I did wonder wtf dufty was at the the time, but let's not forget this happened to ratch at Wheldon Rd, cas are very good at getting the fb caught up in the tackle and reacting with kicks when they're awol.
Just re the saints wigan game the pies scored a Try tonight, welsby was also in the line, no fb present

| Thanks FMC, I didn't spot the Welsby one last night. What was surprising about the Dufty one was that he did the same 3 tackles in a row.
I suppose I am wondering if this is an deliberate ploy or is it a symptom of the disturbance and chaos that sets in when we are starting to get rattled.
At this point in the game we were on the back foot after dominating the first 25 mins. We lost control of the game.
Very similar to Ratchford against Hull KR in the play offs when Mikey Lewis chipped through to score.
If it is a lack of composure under pressure and Powell hammering home "Dealing with pressure" from the moment he arrived it could be that unless he solves this he could be hoisted by his own petard.

I remember catching part of a documentary about liverpool a couple of years ago and remember seeing this. Appeared to be a good way of demonstrating calmness and concentration under pressure / stress situations. Maybe Powell should give this a try https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... NUTES.html

| Not sure that would be a good idea for many of our players with their Warren Stevensesque brain capacities. Could be a lot of casualties.

Funny you should say that, one of my big bug bears last year was how much ratch got caught at marker within our 20 metres, and that was compounded by no one covering for this.
As you say that Mikey Lewis try, I exploded at the time.
Thats good good video prep and good halfback control by the opposite coaching staff
