| If Koukash hadn't come in and Salford had been wound up I wonder what the reaction in the rugby league community would have been.
Probably "its the RFLs fault its a disgrace how can they let a historic club go to the wall".

| No. I honestly don't think they are held in such high esteem by the RL community other than perhaps at RedHall and people in the game. I'm sure most fans wouldn't have been massively suprised, or bothered if they folded.

| Salford a historic club ? Give us a break. They haven't won a thing in my long lifetime...They have a fan base only a little bigger than Broncos. In fact when they came to the HJ the last time they could have fitted in one taxi....There are more clubs playing lower down with far more history than Salford.

| I see there are some very short memories on this board. I remember not too long ago Wire being continuously a lower team in the division who hadn’t won anything for ages. Your sugar Daddy turns up and pumps millions in you and now your where you are. Must be nice sat in your ivory tower looking down but don’t forget that we all remember what you were so a bit of humility and less of the bashing because it will only come back to bit you on the Ar$e. If we get to where we want to be then I certainly won’t start sprout drivel about the lower teams and how , should they fold, no one would be bothered!

Talking of short memories and talking drivel, who was it that said Ratchford was nailed on for Salford at the end of season ?

I know that it is hard to be fair to the likes of Stanley, but, to be fair Salford's wait for the Championship is less than ours without wishing to get our 'proverbials' in a twist.
Apart from the 30's, they as you well know given your user name, or maybe not given your post, had a decent run in the early 70's.
Sure they have had their ups and downs and the crowds are low for such a large place, but, the same can be said for other historic clubs. Widnes are just getting their act together again and what hope is there for the Oldhams and Swinton's of this world in the current set up?

Erm, it wasn't a positive comment. HTH.
Maurice Lindsay used to be at Royal Ascot every year, you know.

Have a look on the Wire website, he is now contracted to 2016. All done fairly quietly.

when was this we were continuosly a lower team in the division....?
I started watching wires in 1979. The following year we won the JPS trophy and the Lancashire Cup, and were runners up in the League. (salford Were relegated btw).
after a barren 1981-82 season finishing plum middle table, We then won another Lancashire Cup in 1982-83 but didnt fair so well in the league. The following year we did better finishing third but no more silverware. But as a result of this "lowly finish" we sacked Kevin Ashcroft. unfortunately Reggie Bowden had us finish in the lower half of the year the following season. So i'll give you that one...
However the following year was something to behold, long before Simon Moran Had made his first Million we recruited (and not from salford either) Les Boyd, Brian Johnson, Alan Rathbone, Kevin Tamamti and Phil BLake. to Add to the recruitment of Andy Gregory half way through the previous season. and without wishing to list any more honours we DID win more Trophies and DID appear in Many Finals And Semi Finals and often losing to the Greatest Wigan side ever but also having one of the best records against them too.....we went to Wembley in 1990, and in 94 we finished the League joint top on points with Wigan And Bradford only to lose out on goal difference. 1995 was the last final we were in pre Morans Money but thats not to say we were miles away... Langer and co for a while had the great Bradford side on the ropes in the challenge cup semi in 2000.
to try and Label Warrington as crap club Pre Moran is plain stupid, and is probably why Wire fans have a pop at Salford if thats the kind of view its fans are churning out.
incidently throughout the above timeline Salford Won chuff all and were up and down the leagues like a yoyo but Leigh and Halifax won the League.... its not hard to see why many fans of a certain age view clubs currently in the Championship as more historic and Bigger than Salford...
I'd rather you survive than be wound up and I'd rather you have Koukash than someone with no ambition but the blokes a tit and He alone is why many people are having a pop....and now his fans are adopting the same arrogant crap, in a few months time you devils will also be calling Rugby League "My sport".... its not his fecking sport at all.
