To be in the top 3 we would need to getting better results than 1 of the following
Leeds, Saints, Wigan.
Not going to happen.

| I Like his soundbites, Maybe I'm being a sucker but it just sounds like he knows whats going wrong and he's trying hard to get them fixed.
Towards the end of his reign you genuinely felt Tony Smith didn't have a clue and the Game of Rugby league had simply passed him by.
this from the WGhttps://tinyurl.com/ybclst3frl
Quote: "“It’s a really important game against Catalans this weekend. We have to play to our standards,
The big thing is being able to execute our attacking shape and do it more so under pressure.
On the flip side, there has been a lot more contact and defensive work this week.
We’d love to be a bit higher than where we are at the moment and we understand what’s letting us down. It’s a matter of being able to do it in a pressure situation.
We’ve been applying that pressure in training, but at the same time we have to change our mentality.
When something does go wrong, we can’t double it up.
We fully understand where our penalties are coming from. We know how we can fix it, but it’s about having the attitude to actually do it out on the pitch.
Once we get that out of our game and eliminate our errors, it gives us more of an opportunity to play the sort of football that we’ve practiced.”'"
that said he will be under some pressure should we lose.....

| Think we need a reality check regarding some of these calls for Price's position to be under threat.
2 simple points,
1. No away game is a gimme in SL. It might not sound good but we could lose all 11 away games and not one would be a 'shock'.
2. Of our 3 home games, the 2 defeats have come against the 2 sides who are more likely than any others to be contesting the Grand Final.
With those 2 points in mind I fail to see how anybody can really question our start or question Price's immediate future.
Yes, performances are pretty uninspiring but I think we all knew it wasn't going to be a quick fix after the shocking state we were in at the end of last season.
Price needs at least 1 full season, some proper recruitment and the opening 6 or 7 games of next season to be properly judged. Anything sooner would simply be a knee jerk, panic reaction.

| Not sure how Price will be under pressure should we lose. Smith went 5 years with underperforming and not winning anything. The club won't pull the plug after 7 games.

So are you saying "the club" has learnt nothing following "underperforming"?

| It would be very foolish and unfair to deny Steve Price at least a season and start of next season to get things going in the right direction. I can't believe anyone is even considering replacing him after only 6 games! Just give the poor bloke a chance and some time to impose his experience and expertise on this group of players who have been atrocious for over a year now.

Time will tell but he won't be sacked anytime soon I know that for sure. He'll get at least this season.

I'd suggest we are not underperforming and are actually performing to somewhere close to our potential.
Without wishing to sound like a broken record, the fact is that our recruitment as been very average in the last few years. The accumulation of those years has slowly built to our present mediocre state.. if you seriously think randomly sacking coaches until we miraculously solve this ingrained problem then you havent the foggiest...

If he didn't win again before the split I bet he would be gone and Henderson in. Cast your mind back to Steve Anderson - how many games did get?
I think it would be fair to judge Steve towards the end of this season. If he has not improved us in that time it's likely he won't. Until then I'm right behind him.

Steve Anderson was given free rein on recruitment and basically put together a whole new squad, which showed absolutely zero quality or potential for improvement in the time he had with them.
Price is still pretty much having to deal with somebody else's mess and it could be argued that they have improved slightly on where we were in September - whereas Anderson was without doubt going backwards very quickly.

| This stuff about inheriting a mess doesn't stand up.
In 2016, we won the league leaders' shield and made two major finals. We started 2017 on Betfair as the favourites to win the Grand Final. The debate at the start of 2017 was not "we have a weak squad" but was whether we needed a new coach to start us winning, rather than losing Grand Final.
Last year we had a bad season, but the squad that we started this season with was still strong enough that a lot of people on here thought we should be top 4 minimum.
if you want to know what inheriting a mess is like, ask Daryl Powell. He took over a team left at the bottom of the table, and because the club was in deep financial mess he was forced to sell his best player (Chase) and best young player (Clark).

| So finishing outside the top 8, regularly being bummed, spending a huge wedge on a half back who most consider well past his not-that-great best and having most observers acknowledge we have one of the worst backlines in the league isn't a mess?
I'd like to see what folk consider actually a pretty poor position then?
