| Quote: MrF "OK chaps, he is not bent, biased whatever - he is no better or worse than any ref in the league. The fact that both Wire and saints fans are complaining confirms it for me, read any forum post match and you will see it.
They have a thankless task - with players constantly trying to gain an advantage by whatever means and having very little support from the sidelines. How many decisions do they have to make during a game, I am sure that it is 1000's - just consider the PTB - defenders clear the ruck, hands in the tackle, markers square, defence back 10, ball played correctly. This happens 5 times a set.
Last play kicks - all of the above plus is the offence on side.
There are changes that could be made by the RFL to assist all refs - put more faith in the TJs,
If anyone watched the England France union game last night, we should be thankful for the standard of our referees (despite the goon Moore who questioned all decisions then apologised for 90% that he got wrong after watching 8 replays from various angles)
Finally, our win / loss record with Silverwood is nothing to do with Silverwood - it is down to the fact that he usually referees our high profile games against the top sides (leeds, stains etc) that we have been unable to win during SL era.'"
Someone with some sense at last! I get sick of hearing or reading people saying a ref is bent or biased. I wonder if some of thesepeople would take it up themselves. It always happens when a ref drops a clanger - "He's got it in for us!" Its easy to say a ref is bent when you're stood on the terraces isn't it?

I agree Saddened.
There were a few dodgy calls, but no more than any other game. People calling a ref bent because he missed a ball steal is pathetic.
Agreed about the drop out incidents too. The in-goal judge over-ruled the linesman, and the ref was right to go with him. From 50m with P&B glasses on it looked like Saints knocked it out. From 5m as a neutral ref, the reality is that it was probably Riley who knocked it out.
Also, very surprised that a mod is happy to call a ref bent on here.

Uncalled for I think. Its very easy to say that when on the terraces wearing P&B specs.

Fourteen 14 defeats and only four wins in three and a bit years.
Defeats:-
Bradford (2)
Catalan (1)
Harlequins (1)
Huddersfield (1)
Hull KR (2)
Saints (5)
Wigan (2)
Wins
Harlequins (1)
Hull KR (1)
Huddersfield (1)
Salford (1)
Take out all Saints games and we still have 4 wins and 9 losses (31% win ratio) with Silverwood compared to 40 wins and 26 defeats (61% win ratio) with all the other referees. Those remaining 13 games were hardly against the cream of SL!
I would love to know why we have had Silverwood five times out of nine games against Saints, and I have yet to hear any reasonable argument as to how our record with one particular referee can be so bad when compared to the rest.

Given those stats you should by now know what to expect from him and be able to tailor your game to suit it. Every referee has a style that players can see and they will know what they are likely to get away with under Silverwood compared with say Alibert.
And on those stats I can only see Quins that you have been comfortably better than over that period and wasn't that defeat an absolute blow out by something like 50 points in London?

If one referees style or interpretation is so different from the rest then firstly both teams would struggle to adapt rather than just one every time, and secondly shouldn't it be upto the referee to bring himself into line with every other referee?
Those stats are just win/loss with Silverwood. We have had him twice against wigan and lost both, with other referees we have won four and lost one. Against Bradford we have lost twice with Silverwood yet won three, lost two with the rest, Hull KR won one, lost two with Silverwood, won four, lost one with the rest.
Eighty-eight games in total, eighteen with Silverwood is a reasonabley sized sample to work from. Our win/loss ratio with Silverwood when compared to the rest is fishy to say the least!

Totally disagree. I was stood on the wall with my two boys right in front of that incident and Gardner clearly hit the ball first. The touch judge was on the spot and flagged for a 20 metre restart and at first silverwood agreed with him, then the in goal judge intervened who was further away and the ref went with him.
That said Silverwood didn't cost us the game, our missed kicks and lack of composure at 20-18 did.

| Not the first time our win/loss ratio has been queried under Silverwood's stewardship.
Saddened; move on. This topic has developed way beyond Friday's game, consequently your input is no longer required nor valid.

| Saints would beat us if Tony Smith was reffing. In relation to SIlverwood, he is the only referee who's integrity could actually be questioned.
