| John Bevan
Watch the famous Barbarians v NZ Union match from 1973. Bevan had already starred for both Wales and British Lions at the time and less than 18 months later he was picking up the CC for Wires. Over 10 years stirling service, trophies, finals and over 200 tries.
6 foot two, eyes of blue, big John Bevan's after you, nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah, nah nah
Oh, and John Woods was quality too!

Watched it last week again -on tape.
Still one of the best matches of either code I've ever seen, with the top try as well.

| Best of all time - has to be Brian Bevan by a country mile.
Never saw him play, but of those I did, I'd go for Jiffy
Also in the reckoning are Steve Hesford, Alex Murphy, Sir Les, Alfie Langer, Joey (OK only 3 matches), and I agree about Lee Briers as Rogue mentioned.
(Also thought Bob Jackson was awesome along with Dessie).

| Quote: sally cinnamon "Have a word with yourselves people.
There's names on this thread of players who had their brief stint with us on big money then disappeared winning nothing and leaving us none the better.
How about signing a 19 year old Briers from Saints in 1997...? I've never been one to bang the Briers drum but respect is due, he should be one of the first names on a thread like this.'"
I agree with your point about short term players Sally but I think you should have a word with yourself over Briers. Anyone who has gone missing as much as he has in matches surely cannot be considered on a thread like this. Under Smith I'm the first to eat my words and admit he's been impressive each game and his attitude has been spot on.
I don't think you can say this for other seasons though.

You are the illegitimate child of Micky Higham & you are only voting for your dad. Or Natters is your sister & I claim my £5.00.

You are surely on a wind up here yeah.. Briers has won more games single handedly dragging the team to victory more then any other wire player i'v ever seen....
And i love this Myth that Briers goes missing in games, What an absolute crock of Shatt that is ,, when we played Salford this year did Myler go Missing, or each time we played Wigan did tomkins go missing, or a fine example is Joey johns did he go missing in our play off game against Hull... Nahhhh i dont think so , Thats three quality Half backs who simply couldn't perform beind a badly beaten pack...
Briers has had quite a few days playing behind a badly beaten pack in his time here, but simply because he's not everybody's cup of tea , we used to get the old ohhh briers went missing , this year he's played behind possibly the best combined pack we have had at this club in my 30 years watching them...
Oh yeah i'd go with
Boyd
Briers

Well said! I think Cullen's name needs a mention aswel, did a great job getting us from 12th to 4th in a short space of time. Shame he couldn't get us to the top!
Smith is another guy who has made a massive impact!
