He wasn't that good, i think people are getting carried away with his performance.
Apart from his drop-goal his kicking game was yet again diabolical, his defence was poor, coming in 3rd man on a guy who is already tackled doesn't count as good defence in my book.
His try was the easiest try he will score in his career, all he had to do was put the ball down over the line, Wolfette could have scored it.
He made a few breaks and gained some meters which i acknowledge he did well.
His creative ability was often shocking, slow run-a-rounds and suicide passes are not the trait of a world class half-back.
Yet again he was an average player in a poor team and he looked like a world beater.

So, not only was Brian Bevan simply average (for not getting international recognition - your theory anyway), Tony Smith talks crap as well...

Why? You said last week that if a player is worthy of international honours he'll get them? So, I simply stated that based on this theory Bevan was obviously not up to standard.
Now you are basically challenging the comments that the head coach has made after yesterdays game.
You obviously have issue with Briers, that is your perogative.
Your arguments are seriously flawed and definately blinkered...

What has time got to do with it?
Should Bevan have received international recognition? You don't have to have seen him play to answer the question, his record and inclusion in two RL halls of fame should suffice.
And my Bevan theory isn't a theory. I'm simply challenging the tripe that you come out with, the latest being the subject matter of this thread.

At the end of the day your theory is nothing more than a load of old chuff.'"
These days the best League players get into the International team, that's what i mean when i say if your worthy of it you get it.
Did Australia have the policy of if you move away from Aus you don't get in the international team, like they do now
I also wasn't using the international thing as a reason for Briers being average, read the post again, you came up with that one.

1. Is that right?
2. Not sure but I believe it is a relatively new directive to try and curb the exodus from NRL to SL.
3. You claim you didn't but you certainly do. The contradiction is there for all to see
Anyway, your talking tripe again. Briers has been singled out for praise by the head coach. I'm not sure why you insist on challenging such praise. It is obviously merited.

Almost every time Riley is tackled returning a kick he loses the collision against the opposition. More often than not he is driven back about 5 yards after being hit. I’m comparing the guy to Stuart Reardon (yes I can cast my memory back to a time when he was fit) who made numerous tackle bursts and could easily step players and gave the team momentum.
'" Yet despite being a crap returner of the ball and getting driven back all the time, he is our 2nd highest metre maker, and is the 2nd highest fullback in the league in this area, higher than Paul Wellens.
Don't let facts get in the way though.
The lad is still learning, and yes he is making errors, but he has pulled off some very good try saving tackles so far, and his kick return is actually at pace rather than the jogging that Reardon and Hicks do.

| God, now i know why i moved out of Warrington. People always bloody moaning
Lets lay off the young guys now.
The older guys have had time to establish themselves if they are cr-p at late 20's early 30's then fair do's. but lads that have just started playing pro and getting booed and told they are rubbish?
1. How does that help us attract new blood.
2. What does it do for confidence for the ones that do manage to break through.
Trouble is we think they should all be world beaters straight away.
Watching Riley at the moment you can see his confidence growing with every game.
Cut the lad some slack

I thought he had an average/poor game on Sunday with his mistakes taken in the round with his 60m blistering run. Then I think I am being unfair and maybe I am missing some huge potential. Then I ponder whether, developing talent or not, he would have got into the Saints or Leeds side this weekend, then I have my answer. He's closer to Gaskel than Garry Jack*

*Look it up pre-SL posters.'" I'm not still 100% convinced by him, but he shows more potential than Reardon or Hicks at 1 for me.
As I mentioned, he makes far too many mistakes, he is averaging 2 per game, which can be pretty crucial at FB, however some of the good things he does suggests he has something about him.
I thought he was okay the other day, he did two crucial things, the try saving tackle after the turnover, and turning the kick round to attack and getting the player binned. Many other fb's would have sent the ball dead, and I quite like his attacking attitude.
If anything, he is a little too keen to get to the ball, and I think that is why he makes mistakes. He will learn though, and will hopefully buy himself more time through positioning, but I certainly think he is worth sticking with for the time being.
Whilst you say he wouldn't get into the Saints or Leeds team, I don't necessarily agree. They aren't scared to blood youngsters when their first choice players are injured, and that is how the likes of Lee Smith and Ryan Hall have developed. It is up to Chris how far he goes now.

Whe you consider the FB that Saints fielded at Wakey I'd have to say yes. Jonny (??) Lomax was okay but by no means error free.
