He's out of form along with Wood and Carvell....It happens in sport.

Looked way off his best since the surgery (don't forget he had shoulder surgery in the off season), but he will come good

[quote="Eddie Hemmings said not ":1h9um51j] "Remember last time they were here, the Huddersfield Giants, they lost to a Luke Walsh drop goal. He's only scored four drop goals in his St Helens career has Luke Walsh and each and every one of them have been scored by Luke Walsh"[/quote:1h9um51j]:

Got into the ground a little late last night, just in time to see Monaghan jogging back and to across the pitch whilst the others were using the tackle pads. When he finished his jog in front of the north stand he spoke with someone (physio?) and seemed to be limping slightly as he walked away. Lacking confidence and far from fit IMO.

Its not rocket science.

The guy isnt fit, largely due to all the surgery he's had since the end of last season.

Lets judge him when he's back to full fitness.

If anything it just shows how awful we are without a fully firing monas. He more than anyone makes us tick.

Forget all this crap about Briers. Monas is the man.

Might be ideal to leave Monas out on Thursday & use Higham & Dwyer .

Darlings of Super League:

If you're injured - and I think he is - you will continue to be injured if you keep playing. If anything you'll make it worse.

Getting him matchfit ready for Keighley and Castleford isn't the priority. The priority is making sure the injury has gone away and then using those games to get him match-fit for bigger games to come.

Monaghan is nearly 32. His attacking game is built on the his pace off the mark and little blokes struggle when they lose even a little bit of zip. He's still as clever/brave etc. but all the bangs take their toll. Hope I am very wrong!

Give him a break and get him right. Same goes for Hodgson who looks broken every time he's tackled.

He's not match fit because of his 2 shoulder operations he had pre season. We went out to Aus to get fit and train in the heat and he sat out of most of the training because he was recovering. The start of the season is like his pre season. He'll come good, just like the rest of the team will. We'll have good and bad spells. This one is a bad one, we'll grow out of it and learn. Have faith.

It looked like he was rushed back from his latest op due to Higham's ban. He managed about 30 minutes in his first spell against Wakefield and looked absolutely knackered when he came off. He still doesn't look fully up to speed and if he needs a few games off to get right it must be better to do it now rather than later in the season.

I think Hodgson always looks like that, even when he's fully fit.

I've said before on other threads, our pack have very little 'go forward' in them at the moment. Our pack at its best last year was steaming onto the ball, knocking down the opposition and getting away quick, free-armed offloads. At the moment, our players are running into the collision, getting wrapped up, held up and being slowed down dramatically. Smith said after the London game that it took us a while to adjust because the ref was allowing such a slow game, it's continued into every game. It doesn't help having some of your best forwards looking to get rid of the ball at every opportunity instead of trying to make more metres.

Once our forwards start playing the ball quicker, like Saints done against us in the first half, Monaghan will be able to work on the back of some proper go forward. We've started every game slowly and it feels like most of the lads are working their way into games, as soon as we start hitting our stride early, I imagine all of the confidence will come flowing back and we'll start dominating like last year.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_47035.gif
