| Quote rubber duckie="rubber duckie"And all that will take it’s toll on someone who’ll be at the wrong end of his 30s sooner than later.
Someone has already mentioned offloading a year too soon is better than a year too late. I cannot give them an argument.
I’d love Hull to do another season at Wire to run along side his plumbing, that Simon apparently helped him set up in the town.
This is why I cannot fathom CHs reasoning to take up a 2 year offer at Hudds. Shirley the plumbing should come first now? Playing local will help him grow it, unless he’s doing so well, he’s already considering expanding into West Yorkshire!

Plumbing in Yorkshire!
I thought it was all wells and buckets over there.

| Quote sally cinnamon="sally cinnamon"It's between Hill and Paul Wood.
I'd say peak Hill was better than peak Wood, but Wood provided better consistency over a longer period of time.
Also remember Morley was here for 7 seasons too.
Its hard to do value for money as it involves guesswork as to what the players were actually earning, so if you discount the contract size and look at overall contribution taking into account longevity I would say:
1. Morley
2. Wood
3. Hill
4. Cooper
5. Carvell'"
All great players for the Wire, and very difficult to rate or rank against each other.

| Paul Wood in front of Hill and Cooper - seriously?
I can accept him in front of Carvell just on length of service but the vast, vast majority of his career he was our third or fourth choice prop.

| I think there is an argument for Hill as No1 when you think of the season where he and Sims were our only 2 props of note and he on occasion he was playing 80 minutes. Paul Wood was a great servant to the club but nowhere near that level.

Very good point. I think it was 2015-2017 where we were a bit pants on depth of forwards. Hill was a machine and possibly does deserve to be on a par with Morley.
The worst thing we did (for his form) was give him the captaincy.

| Cooper is a better prop IMO, those 5 listed are the best props we have had I'm my time watching wire. Carvell I think was a fantastic signing. Him and Morley with monoghan at 9, just magnificent.
Wood is probably bottom of that pile but he definitely deserves to be up there for longevity and effort for the wire cause. He was a very good player but the other 4 have been exceptional for wire IMO.

| Either way we have, comfortably, the best front 3 in the competition currently.

| Is Hills contract up at the end of this year?
If so, losing him for next year will be a big blow. He's had a new lease of life since concentrating on his game and not having the captaincy. Powell certainly has clear ideas about what he wants but this must have been a difficult decision.
Do you get rid before their form starts to wane or at the end of the season when it has started to wane?
I suppose it's a combination of contract length and value.
I suspect if we'd have offered him a 2 year deal on slightly less money than Hudds he could well have stayed.
Watson has a good record of eeking out performances and years from older players. I can see why Hill fits the bill.
So Coops has an even more important role - hopefully Bullock and co will learn a lot and come up to the mark.
I like Mulhern and Butler but they are not a Chris Hill - neither are Kibula or Doro (even accounting for their age and relative inexperience - Doro looks more likely to have a longer career at Wire at the moment).
There used to be a page on here with contract lengths and end dates. Wish we had that.
