| What areas is BH better than RM and vice versa then Mark/M-d-c ?
His goal kicking is important but what else, if this was the BH of 3 or 4 years ago i wouldn't even argue but the guy has been injured so much this season and don't see where he is head and shoulders above RM ?

| Thankyou Yed I have my doubts about this signing. The bloke is becomnig somewhat injuiry prone this year. Who would we play fullback when he is to get injuired next year, Riley, Hicks both more effective on the wing.
So yeah, I suppose I would rather have Mathers.

| It wasn't three or four years ago, he was MoS last season and was outstanding in all aspects of his game. He has had injuries, the uncertainty of his transfer and the situation with Brown leaving which has taken a toll on his performances this year but I do not doubt he will replicate 2009 in 2011.
Put it this way Tony Smith thinks Hodgson is a better player than Mathers and that should be all we need to know. Onwards and upwards.

David Solomona hardly played a game for Bradford and he hasn't done too bad has he?
I am sorry but I am more prone to trust Tony Smiths judgment than any supporters on here.
( although on the other hand slagging off Mathers on Twitter is out of order I am sure he is doing his best and doesn't mean to make these errors).

Hodgson - Better with ball in hand, great goalkicker, better defense, better reading of the game, better at passing on his skills to younger players.
infact im strugling to think of what mathers does better than the current MOS brett hodgson...
smith has already said he wont be playing every week.. so he obviously has plans for the position that involves one of the younger players.

| Mathers is actually head and shoulders the better defender of the two but nowhere near as good an attacker.
check the stats even his MOS stats BH's defence is poor
Isn't fullbacks biggest priority defence ?

That's what I was thinking.
Mathers scores more tries, makers more metres, clean breaks, less missed tackles, less errors, less penaltites and more runs from dummy half.

....Jesus wept.
Fair enough, have an opinion, but be realistic....Mathers, while his enthusiasm is admirable, is an accident waiting to happen, as was seen on Friday night, when a couple of astonishing brainfarts almost cost us the game.
He is a fantastic example to youngsters of giving 100%, but on a clinical, professional basis, the signing of Hodgson is a must....Even though Tony Smith won't admit it publicly, I reckon he must have serious reservations of Wire getting through the forthcoming play-offs without Mathers making some serious, costly error.
It certainly doesn't help Mathers that he occupies a position that is so exposed....Like a goalkeeper in football, a full back's mistakes are often the costliest, but the problem with Mathers is that his errors are often so laughable....The unintentional face-in-the-ground forward roll would be hysterical if it wasn't so serious a flaw in simple technique.
I wish Mathers all the best for the rest of the year, and indeed the rest of his career, but on a purely blinkered Wire point of view, his departure will almost certainly improve the side and that has got to be our main priority.
As for Hodgson???....Just wait until next year, when he gets to link up with Briers & Monaghan....He'll be an absolute, guaranteed revelation, as he comes running onto the ball out wide....No longer with the responsibility of being the main man at a small club, he'll thrive at the HJ.
