| Quote: Geordie "The thing about the interception is that had he taken a step or 2 less and passed slightly earlier, the ball is in our wingers hand on an overlap and we score. Thats how close these things are, a matter of inches turns you from hero to Zero. No one would have said it was a stupid pass had we scored off it, everyone would be crowing about how good it was.
He was trying to unlock a stubborn defence, the timing was slightly out it doesn't make it a disgrace.
His kicking game isn't the best accepted but kicking from 7 is a different skill from kicking from dummy half, a skill that needs to be learnt and unfortuntaley as he has played hooker all his life he is still learning.
Put him back to Hooker and give him a few games and we may see a better Monaghan that everyone wants to keep. How many want rid of Matt King now?'"
Monoghan made his reputation in the NRL as a 7. He was only switched to hooker to accommodate Matt Orford at Manly and left because of his ambition to play scrum half. I find it amazing for someone who has played at the top level in Australia in a pivotal position how little creativity the man possesses. He is just a machine who will continue to do the same play every time. He never tries anything different and the only times he looks good at scrum half is when he’s caught in possession and has to step his way through the defence.
Granted he did look much more settled at hooker yesterday and a much better player, but all in all he’s been a flop. I wouldn’t be sorry to see the back of him whatsoever. The guy hasn’t taken any sort of affinity to the club, town or fans and IMO we should be getting rid of him at the end of the season.

| Thought Monaghan had a fair game in the second half, playing at hooker he looked very impressive, gave away three cheap balls but created or started three tries, yet again his defencive effort was second to none and that is what may have sneaked him the MOM award.

Yep, can't argue with the fact that he looked a different player when he changed position, credit must go to Smith for making the many key positional changes he did, but I still don't fel he was anywhere near MOM.
When you have the likes of Riley, Mathers, King, Harrison etc. playing out of their skin with almost faultless displays, it is a bit disappointing, but then it is sponsors who select MOM and not necessarily experts.

| FOR THE PASS SEASON AND A HALF I HAVE BEEN ANNOYING POSTERS BY SAYING MONAS IS NO HALF BACK AND WE SHOULD PLAY HIM ACTING HALF.........I HOPE NOW SOME OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD YOUR EYES WIDE OPEN.
WHAT A WASTE OF A SEASON AND A HALF....!
FOR PEATS SAKE.....I HOPE AFTER BUYING IN THREE HOOKERS TO PLAY OUT OF POSITION AS A SCRUM-HALF ON THE BOUNCE, THE CLUB MIGHT JUST HAVE LEARN SOMETHING.

Come on Mate I'm not Way off at all...... He was bobbins...He did improve in the second half i'm not blind to that but this guy is an NRL all star according to most on here..
those that are giving him big raps about his hooking display are they wanting mickey higham to miss the remainder of the season so we can have Clarke and Monaghan at hooker .......
and if So who is going to be our Scrum half because if its not Monaghan we dont have one at the club.....
and will people please stop banging on about a scrum halfs "Great Defence" half backs do not get noticed for tackling....
go on the wigan board and ask if anyone can rememember Andy Gregorys best defensive display and you'll probably get banned....

| Terrible first half, two mistakes stand out, the backwards kick to touch and the horrendously misjudged pass from which they scored.
But lets give the guy a break, he was brilliant second half and created a lot, yeah his offloading wasnt great but the sponsors liked what they saw!

| Another enigma.
Far far better from 9, at 7 he just stinks. Lets hope Briers is back next week because at times especially in the first half we lacked ambition and creativity. If so, I'd like to see Grix and Briers at 6 and 7, Clarke 9 and Monaghan rotating with Clarke.

| Negative negative.
Monas wasnt great in the first half. Neither he nor anyone else in the team found it easy to break a resolute Hull defence.
Second half, he was the catalyst that totally changed the pace of our attack and fully deserved man of the match.
We must have the most negative fans in the league who always need at least one player to have a go at.

Scott Wilson? Matt Rodwell?
You probably thought Matt King was the worst import ever at the beginning of this season

| Anything that he did wrong in the second half, he was just guilty of overplaying, which in itself shows much better he was than usual. If he did what he did the second half yesterday, every week, he'd win some serious admirers and we'd as fans think he was exceptional.

I sort of agree, but I feel he did still make some poor decisions with ball in hand.
Also, when Higham is back, what do we do? Do we want two similar hookers?
We signed him as scrum half, if he isn't up to that then we should cut our losses IMO. We don't need a hooker.
He had a very good 15 minute spell yesterday, but the fact is that with the ball, he makes far too many bad decisions, and some of his passing and kicking is dire. Eventually we will see that at 9 too.
During the next couple of months without Higham I would start with Monas at 7, then move him to 9 and switch with Clarke if not going to plan, as they did yesterday, but the fact is whatever people say about him being a hooker, he did have NRL experience at 7, and came as a 7.

It doesn't matter now though its where he plays best which is going to help us to win games if he keeps helping us win games playing at 9 then keep him there winning matches is all that matters.
