| Quote: fez1 "But iirc, most fans were pleased we'd got 2 big units after a year of struggling in the forwards (ironically including Holmes, Hughes and Mulhearn - the 1st two came in for massive criticism from fans).
Kasiano in particular was seen as an impact prop but one with more than a little skill.
I thought we'd got 2 too many props so even losing Mikaele and Maguire we weren't exactly light IF Powell got them playing in the right way.
Vaughan, Bullock, Philbin, Kasiano, Dudson, Harrison plus Green.
On paper thats not bad.'"
I had no issues with us letting Holmes and Hughes go, Mulhearn however I thought was good enough to keep but I understand (from posts on here!) that we didn’t offer a good enough deal.
I agree with your comments on the perceived strength of the pack though.
What amazes me is that players who were devoid of confidence last season are playing with vim and verve at Leigh whereas totally new players to our team are devoid of confidence, I can’t see how this is anything other than a coaching issue.

I would personally say it's 3/5 coaching, 2/5 recruiting aging journeymen. Sometimes you are lucky, but by and large they have no buy in to the club. I would loan Dudson, who must surely be nicknamed 'dud' to Swinton. That's the standard at which he seems comfortable.

| I'm really not sure of the negativity towards Kasiano... I can see errors in his game but there is effort , skill and go forward when on it ... Dudson did ok at Catalans but for whatever reason is either unwilling or unable to step up and will be the first casualty of a post season cull .. having said that people who were poor and let go last year appear to have stepped up a gear with a different voice in their ears so who knows

| Powell basically replaced Mulhern with Dudson. There are quite a few other of his recruitment calamities that Mr Burgess is going to have to deal with. I hope we haven't told him about the Clark/Dwyer thing.

And what have Swinton ever done to you? Pack him off to Widnes (win/win)

I was thinking that when Mulhern got MOM yesterday. He played decent for Wire and Powell says "he wanted to keep him" - well why didn't we? Another crap decision.
Dudson showed how brain dead he is with that "punch" in the final game of last season getting a ban for us before he even pulled on the jersey. Together with his abysmal stats.

We have enough forwards available now that he should not even be in the 21 for the Leeds game.

| With Burgess and Long now joining the Warrington circus , don’t you think you’re a bit overloaded with clowns ? You definitely need some highly skilled performers to balance things out

Not so much a calamity.
Wire had the nrl sniffing about Walker.
Walker is our future and something has to go.
I don’t really have a problem losing Clark for Walker, I would the other way.
Clark is better, but years are very much numbered.
I would wager very heavily, if Saints had Walker in their ranks, they would not be signing Clark.

| It is delicious to imagine how Burgess would deal with Dudson's 3 drives and 20 meter performance.

Nrl sniffing around walker?? That's a bit far fetched even by your standards RD!

He is however, one of the few decent hookers coming through the system. And the current England choice. I’d be gutted if we’d lost him to be developed at Saints, in order to keep a player who is very good but ageing, on a 3 year contract.
Hopefully he’ll flourish under Burgess, and be allowed to play to his strengths behind a decent pack.

I’d be surprised too, though the point stands. If we had kept Clark and allowed Walker to leave, it would be the opposite to what most want to happen, opportunities given to younger players. I don’t think keeping both was a realistic option, they both wanted to be first choice 9.
I don’t believe Saints would have signed Clark if they had Walker either.
