If Powell had walked into a successful side, then maybe there could be more of a compromise. But this team has stunk the place out for years now and I'm disappointed that players are obviously unwilling to change their ways for the sake of the club, especially Cooper who is a Warringtonian. Sounds to me like he's been one of the main protagonists against the changes Powell is making, and if true, good riddance.
What should Powell do? "Yes Chris, Currie, you're right. You know what's best, let's do it it your way. The club have been doing really well and I don't want to upset your life balance".
Go and do one is what I say. Take Hughes with you and the rest of the half d/spoilt players who won't even put the effort in for the fans who've paid their hard earned money.'"
Absolutely this 100%. People, take the rose tinted spectacles off. We’ve been pretenders since 2013, we’ve made 2 grand finals since then incredibly but I didn’t fancy us in either of those games in truth. I go on (and on) about KissKamKarl but seriously, look at the last 5/6 years in terms of recruitment and retention and it would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad. Terrible. He’s got to be ultimately accountable for that, he doesn’t pick the team or run the training sessions but he’s accountable for coaches and players getting hired. He’s got to go as part of any shake up, the man is an absolute joker and the epitome of “jobs for the boys”. Start there, back Powell and see where we go….

I think the idea is we are going through this pain now so we can be real contenders in the future. I don't believe Powell is a bad coach, but I do believe we have culture problems and players that think they are better than they are. Players that perhaps had got comfortable running their side businesses with playing pro rugby an after thought.'"
So you have a divine right to be better than these clubs. yet here you are, below all three.

On Powell - Briers made an interesting comment on Sky last night saying at the big clubs you don’t need to make big changes when a new coach comes in. Peet has come in at Wigan and seems to have evolved the team well without any ructions. There are parallels with us in they were competitive but were poor in attack and fans complaining about the style of play etc. So they promoted internally and recruited our assistant coach to work on attack…..
'"
Yeah i picked up on that comment too. It holds some substance because Wigan were absolutely dreadful at the back end of last year. They couldn't buy a win let along score any points. Fans were calling for wholesale changes then. Peet has stepped up to head coach and brought Briers in with almost the same group of players as last year and they have won the CC and are serious grand final contenders. Maybe Powell has gone about things the wrong way?

Or maybe Wigan have better professionals with more desire so Peet has the raw materials already.

So what is he doing about it? He’s essentially shopping Cooper around, but picking him every week. Then changes Davis, Clark, Magoulias, Longstaff. So, I’ve had an argument with you, you’re a bad Apple, you need to get out of the club… but start on Friday and I’ll drop someone else. Stupid.
If he’s a bad Apple, stop playing him. He’s picking the same players time and again, or are Riley Dean and Rob Butler causing the disruption in the camp?
He may have not inherited the 2006 saints, but it’s better than 2003 Halifax that we’ve currently got

I agree with this and wish he would just bin them. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place though because if we were to omit all the players not pulling their weight, then there wouldn't be enough proven talent left to select from. The problem is as well, is that it only takes 3/4/5 say influential players to get hacked off, and their bad energy transcends amongst other players and you end up with a general malaise as we had yesterday.

There’s a line between players who he can’t the best out of and players who are bad apples though. It’s important that we recognise that.
Cooper wouldn’t be sought after by Wigan and, in particular Briers, if he was a bad lad.

Zac Hardaker is a bad lad.. and Leeds wanted him. And he ripped us apart last night. Much like Cooper will do when he plays against us next year..

Unless the rabble start to pull their fingers out, we won't be playing cooper's new team next season!

That’s all well and good, but what if they win the “ four pointer” when we play each other, they’ll only be one win away from us

No they won't. They are 6 points behind us now (3 wins), if they play us next week and beat us they will be 4 points behind us (2 wins).
They have to win 3 more than us over the remaining games, makes no odds if that game is against us or not.
The standard of maths on here is terrible.

He scored 1 if you call dropping the ball over the line a try

| Quote: Philth "I'm trying to think of a similar situation in everyday life.
I've worked in businesses before where's there's been some long termers in a team and a new manager starts. They begin to influence and change aspects of it. Couple of the old timers start to leave, the ones left grumble because they dont like the change "that's now how it used to be done". This feeds into some of the medium termers in a "if he's not happy it must be poop" kind of way.
Senior management have to hope that this is the end of the old way and the start of the new dawn. I think with so many OOC players for Powell to come in to, they know of a 3-5 year plan. Our board aren't thickos, they are mostly astute businessmen.
Powell could be a dud, that's true, but this change is needed, whether it was Powell or Wane or Bennett, they've inherited a fixer upper, but there's seemingly dry rot that the initial survey didn't pick up!'"
Wigan fan here,I come in peace.
Shocked by that performance the other night, but what’s written here is pretty much bob on there are to many “old timers” clearly need clearing out,new broom etc he’s got to be given the time and I’m sure he will get it too the board seem to be backing him with the prop situation so I’d expect them to stand by him.
He clearly wants to change the culture at Warrington,I pinch myself when I see the job Matty Peet is doing at Wigan (alongside Briers of course) change can happen quickly if you’re lucky,if not then a root and branch rebuild is needed I suspect that’s what Powell thinks is needed and he’s possibly right to if you’re being honest, the club has at best stood still, the competition needs a strong Wire,Leeds side to make it interesting and I’m sure this is short term pain for Wire.
