Chris Riley played outside Ryan Atkins who people used to say never passed to his winger.

| Quote: Wires71 "This argument would have more weight if he wasn't our incumbent strike player. Any disillusionment didnt affect his try scoring even in the stagnant environment of a Price team and self acknowledged personal issues. I am at a loss why he is getting so much critique ahead of other players. (Ie King being touted as the messiah, clamour to extend his contract then 1 try in 4 months return). Maybe I have a blindspot.
I see no reason why he cannot thrive in a Powell side that enourages moving the ball to the wings. He is a class finisher and winner and one of the few in our side with a GF ring.
As for his defence, he kept us scoreless for an hour in the 2018 grand final.
We have pressing weaknesses in our squad that may prevent us challenging the final but I dont see him as one of them.
All will be revealed.'"
Yeah, I'm not saying I'd be pushing him out of the door or that he's a bad player, just that he seems to be in a state of drift which could say more about us than him. I felt the same about Martin Gleeson towards the end of his time here and he was still a good player and played a part in winning a Grand Final after he left.

| Atkins assists:
2010 - 13 (only Bridge got more as a centre in the competition)
2011 - 12 (again, only Bridge)
2012 - 14 (highest)
2013 - 3 (not near the top)
2014 - 4 (likewise)
2015 -unable to find stats
2016 - 6 (behind Cudjoe)
2017 - 2 (not near)
All in all, I think it’s evident that Atkins followed the trajectory of the team, but could in fact provide for his winger. Not a Gleeson style, but effective. I can’t recall Riley having to do too much for his tries more often than not. No disrespect, he did his bit.
The rate of Charnley is actually impressive given his recent use as a back up prop/spectator

| I liked Adkins, an explosive, powerful runner with an eye to the try line and an impressive try scoring record across the competition. I also remember the passes into the 2nd row seating of the north stand or behind/in front of winger.

| Atkins was a great signing for us, he scored a lot of tries and got more assists than he got credit for. He came. Up with some great individual plays (ball steak at Hull for the breakaway try when we won the lls) and some monumental brain farts, the worst of which will always be Ryan Air which was rightly ridiculed! (I will be willing to accept a temporary forum ban for reminding everyone of this).
Overall a good signing and good player though he did far more good than bad.

| Atkins was a good individual player and played in a good side when at his peak. It's a little bit like Martin Offiah. All he could do was run fast with a great swerve and step, but he was a legend for his try scoring record. No one really cared about the fact he didn't have the full skill set because he was making a difference with the things he could do well.

Only saw this incident live from the South Stand.
Price`s reaction at the end of that clip is a reflection of how we all felt at the time.

| Atkins was a class player and at his peak as good as any centre in the league. If Toby King gets close to being as good as Atkins he'll have done well.

Agreed. Ryan Atkins is 6th on the all time Super League top try scorers list with 186 tries.
Who is 5th? Well our very own Josh Charnley with 195.

Charnley had a couple of seasons out with sale as well. He could be on for the all time record by now if he stayed? He could still get there anyway depending on how well Ryan Hall does at Hull KR and how long he plays on for. If he does well this season and Powell keeps him on then he has a chance, if he stays injury free he should be up to 3rd all time before too long this season.

The last table I saw had him 50 tries behind Danny Maguire in first place. Charnley is only 31 mid way through 2022, he could well finish his career as the highest SL try scorer of all time given the opportunity.
Tommy Makinson by comparison has 60+ tries less than Charnley and is only 6 months younger.

Yeah he gets away with absolutely loads at the disciplinary board too. They're both good, makinson is the best winger in superleague IMO even if he does need to get his wrists slapped (more a tickle) every now and again.
