| I am not the biggest fan of Price but I was encouraged by the style of play and the attitude when defending in the first 2 games.
Maybe yesterday was just a blip but on the same token the performances against a Wigan team that was undercooked and an injury ravaged saints team could be the exception in the sort of run of form that saw Lowes lose his job in 2009.
Back in 2009 Smith was waiting in the wings with 4 years to go until the next world cup. Wane has less than 2 and I am sure that the RFL want him on it full time.
We don't know what impact the Gelling situation had on the squad in yesterday's performance. When you look at the impact on wigan when the story was about to break on the Tomkins brothers night out in standish. The story broke straight after we nilled them so you would guess that everybody knew it was about to come out, they then lost the next 2 games but still beat us 3 times during the rest of the season the last game being the GF.
The next 3 games will indicate where we are at.
Only 1 win in the next 3 then price can go but it has been pointed out who comes in?
What are the Walker brothers up to these days.

| Bet your life we're already 'throwing money' at a coach. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Price was the highest paid coach in SL. We'd probably get Danny Ward for a fraction of the price. Leutele is also not the answer. Brand should get first dibs at replacing Gelling and the option of Ratchford to centre should it not work out.
Price's next team selection should be very interesting. Ashton will come back in but where?

Can't say I agree, JN
Watson is a streaky coach. Nothing more, nothing less.
Cast your mind back to the 2017, after a typical start, they went on a remarkable run (for them), winning iirc 11 out of 12 or 13 games, and making the CCsemi v Wigan (they took the lead, then promptly poohed their pants). After that they went on a similar losing streak to finish the season, very poorly. Nothing much in 18, then overachieving for a while, last year, with the MoS at his disposal.
I'd want a bit more than streaky runs. They've hardly set the season alight, so far, and the less said about GB last year, the better (he surely had SOME input)

| Don't we think henderson is worth a go if price doesn't improve our fortunes? He was doing a great job at London and they played great rugby under henderson, surely the plan was to bring him in to be our next coach after a few years of being understudy.

| Got a feeling Price will have another 10/12 games to turn this around.
The next 6 games are key as to how the rest of the season will pan out; Toronto home, Leeds away, Cas Home, Hull FC away, HKR Away, Catalan home...
Realistically with the squad we have and if we want to be challenging for the top, we should be winning 5-6 of those games minimum. Winning only 3 or less games should be considered a failure and the pressure will be on from the fans to sack him...Regardless of the CC win last year, we need to be ruthless like Leeds was with Furner.
Furner’s record last year was as follows:
Team Gms W D L W%
Leeds Rhinos 15 5 0 10 33

Fair enough but has had to deal with constant squad disruption and in the most part, punched above.
I have the misfortune of watching Salford a lot and their fans adore him.

Not a lot. Scott and John are both dead (one of them, last year), and I don't know about Gary.
No Regrets still remains one of my favourite songs of all time, though.

Yes, if and when SP's tenure ends, I'd give Hendo a go rather than Watson.

That Prem side of 86 WAS class (an unbelievable pack, helping out a poor 3/4 line) , it would've been invincible, bar the camp bookmaker making it his mission to tempt A. Gregory away from us, so much so, he went on strike, to get his move. After the Prem, we started the next season losing the opening 2, then went on a huge winning streak, including thrashing Wigan (h), Leeds (a) 54-16 and Widnes 35-4 in the JPS semi-Final. The loss of Gregory to that side ####ed us, and we never recovered, until the second coming of Mackey. But its not as if we didn't spend money. Boyd had a huge contract (subsidised by Peter Higham, iirc), Then there was Tamati and Rathbone who commanded decent fees. We'd done a deal with Widnes previously for A. Gregory with Fieldhouse and cash going the other way. We'd also paid for Blake's 6 month stint and to prize Johnson away from Oz. So we DID act in the transfer market, just not in the same bracket as Wigan (on verge of full time pro), they went and signed Hanley (Ford, Donlan and cash going the other way) Goodway (record) and Lydon (record, again) in the space of 5 months, we just couldn't compete.
'"
This is why I love talking about the old times on this forum, this era was tantalisingly just a few years before I started, and all I have is Rothmans and what I've read from some stuff I can find on the internet. Nothing beats hearing about history from first hand observers, especially the ones who were in their younger days when you are at your most RL obsessional (like me in the 90s).
I think we were on the verge of something big around 1986/87 and again in 1993/94, but we failed to capitalise. In the 1980s maybe you can't criticise the club too much as Andy Gregory wanted out and they did at least try to make big signings with Woods and Drummond, they were just losing talent at the same time so slid slowly backwards. And they were trying to compete with the big rise in Wigan's spending power.
In the 1990s the lack of ambition was disappointing because a window was opening with SL on the horizon and Wigan's great dynasty coming to an end. With the young talent that we had on the books at the time plus an emerging Harris and Sculthorpe who knows what we could have gone on to achieve if we'd have seized the moment instead of rather lamely allowing Davies, Bateman and Mackey to leave. In 1994 we finished joint top and missed out on points difference, level on points with Wigan and also Bradford. Bradford were the ones who seized the moment. You just wonder whether if we had shown a bit more ambition then, the stars had lined up for us to be able to do what Bradford did over the next decade.

| The moat appalling aspect of all this is the insinuation that because I remember the 86 team, I'm old. Nonsense, I started young. Young enough to be considered child cruelty frankly.
And what's a boomer? I thought that was a type of loaf?

| A boomer is someone old enough to remember when you only got 3 points for a try.
A milennial is someone young enough that they didn't know you used to only get 3 for a try.

Hard to put up any kind of arguement, sally, but the club's failure to capitalise on the Prem season was solely down to Gregory. The club were "between a rock and a hard place, simply because of Wigan's purchase power. Widnes suffered the same effect, 4-5 years later, when they (Wigan) came sniffing for Offiah (by this time, Leeds had gone pro, but had "spurted" a ton of money on John Gallagher, who stunk the house out for them). Player power existed even back in the mid 80's in RL. That pack (given better diets/training regimes etc) was better than our 2011/12 pack, imo.
The non kicking on of the 94 side remains puzzling. Davies got injured playing for GB, Francis Maloney was a joke, and Bruce Maguire never really "hit the heights" in a Wire jersey. Add to that, our pack was still not good enough, didn't help. Then, a year later, Davies (and eventually Bateman) went back to the 3 point code. C'est la vie.
Genuine question, as this tired "brain" has forgotten, but what happened to Mackey. My memories of him after April 94 are non existent. Please help.
Anyway. Back on thread.
Price is a waste of time. (obviously, apart from the CC) He's brought nowt but dour rugby to us.
...and, a bit like I mentioned before regarding Watson with the GB situation....why promote Henderson? Surely HE'S had some input into this situation, and we've lost godknows how many since July 2019..
I don't know WHERE these replacements are going to come from (I pay NO attention to the NRL), but we need a new direction, with a totally new coaching staff. We don't owe Briers a living. Is Chambers still here? Didn't we give Westwood a job.? For God's sake, this isn't the "Anfield bootroom" of the 70's/80's where they've won everything, so they employ from within.
Our ethos needs to change. QUICKLY.
