Agreed.
Half back or full back will generally be where the marquee allowance gets spent, due to the scarcity of quality available. A good centre can be your most potent attacking threat however, so I would have no problem spending marquee on a centre, assuming Full Back, Half Back and Hooker were already of a good enough quality.
Prop forward is a position that is stacked with talent, so I would be reluctant to spend it there, 2nd Row also whilst a key position isn't so much a problem to recruit towards. Wing also I dont see the point of a marquee spot.

And as we are just about to say goodbye to Goodwin & Atkins and Burrell is off the cap for 2020, Watkins would be a good acquisition for me. Burrell will not be the Centre we are looking for this year or next
well that him past his sell by date

| Burrell is past it is he? You've just declared yourself a Leigh fan on the Wigan board - which is it?

| I'm lookin forward to watching Burrell. He's a unit and if there is a draw and pass to his game...that makes Charnley favourite for top try scorer in 2020.
I don't see him playing left side and I think Toby is good to switch.

Miserable how? because I'm suggesting that with Goodwin and Atkins leaving next season; a union player may find it hard to adapt straight away and that a proven out and out centre, who has been released, may be worth a punt?
Can't even breathe on here sometimes.

Not sure this draw and pass element is true. I’ve watched him for a whole season and he was a big, strong, quick lump who panicked in open spaces. He’s improved since then, he was young when at Sale but he’s an Atkins replacement with similar strengths and weaknesses.
Incidentally King seems to be struggling to draw and pass properly of late. Pretty often he passes too early. Was guilty of it again against Catalans. That seemed to be his big strength when he first emerged a few seasons ago.
I don’t see enough to suggest he’s going to make it, so another centre wouldn’t be a bad thing. Wouldn’t be spending it on Watkins though.

On current form he will have no chance in the NRL.

| I feel like this will be the end of him. He needed to find a club that will play him week in, week out.
He'll be at a lower level SL club soon enough.

When guys like Bateman, Davies, Devereux and Gibbs came over, how long did they take to adapt? My memory might be hazy but I seem to remember these guys being signed in a blaze of publicity and put in the team in the next week, and it was an era where there was less protection from refs where you had Drummond tackling people with his head and so on, so they would have got tested early on. I can't remember them taking that long to settle.

I can remember when we signed John Bevan. He played the week we signed him. On his first attacking run, he released the ball as you would in rugby union. He did go on to score a try.

| Watkins. His best days are long gone. Let him be somebody else's worry.
Burrell. Come Christmas, he'll be 32, and getting no younger. On a similar vein to Sally's above post. This fella NEEDS to hit the ground running, pretty quickly. After all, it's RL. There can't be too much to learn. He's not stripping down the Space Shuttle. The only (potential) worry I have for him, is fitness levels. I remember a quote from the great Davies, after his first games of RL "I was sh*gged out".
Get him out there. He'll learn little, sat in the North Stand

| Watkins days as a top line centre are gone, that injury plus whatever rehab he has had has robbed him of pace, strength and confidence. He's been reduced to an average second row. Still, plodding around the Gold Coast sure beats Leeds.
As for Burrell he hsd played RL before so has an advantage wise. Get him fit, maybe a game at Rochdale then lets see what he can do.
As has been alluded to earlier, Allan Bateman had an A team game, made a break with his first touch and it was clear then that even if he had to learb the game under the scrutiny of the first team, he'd succeed.
